Vols Defeat UNC-Wilmington 87-75;

Another Hat Tip to ConyersVol for the email. The LWS Team is shocked that Conyers and GallaVols are providing Blog input.

OuterMonvolians, be careful!!! You are the USS Kitty Hawk and there is a Chinese Sub who is well within weapons range.

But I digress, Thanks again for your Vols Basketball homoerotica ConyersVol. Keep the stories flowing my weird friend.

Marques Johnson carried the ball essentially every time. He looked awkward and slow.

I think Jordan Howell is still hurting (in his caboose?).

Passley looked very frustrated and reminded me of Asumnu, good for some dunks and that is it.

Crews….he looked super slow when he got the ball down low. He is a monster though, he is growing up each game and just getting better and better. Thats right”growing up”

Childress is the most improved player on the team. Good defender, very strong in the low post and good rebounder.

Tabb plays FAST. He changes the pace with his frenetic defense. He also can finish around the hole.

Chris Lofton is still not getting any calls…I thought they would call a charge every time, he finally got a foul call when he was essentially moving away from the basket and got hacked. He looks more aggressive.

Dane looks the same, solid contributor. I noticed he is more hesitant on his shot now, I think that is because Howell when healthy, and moreso Lofton and Jajuan Smith has better outside shots, but a few times he was left WIDE open on the wing and he passed up a shot.

Jajuan Smith lived up to his name, the pest. He looked absolutely awesome. He played great defense and he was totally unconscious from the perimeter. He also went for blocks.

Chism was hesitant most of the game but had a NICE drive to the hole in the second half that showed some freakish athleticism.

R Smith was a bit sloppy with the ball, did not seem to always know what he was doing. He and Chism have tons of potential but looked like freshmen.

Overall the team got up big in the first half and then decided to get sloppy on offense and lax on defense. Bruce Pearl did what I thought he would do and had the team ready to DESTROY UNC Wilmington in the second half.

We did a better than expected by me job handling a tough huge guy inside. We did not defend their jumpshooter number 41 even though he was just a spot up shooter who did not do much off the dribble to get his shot. That concerns me. A lanky guy who is 6’6 or 6’7 who can shoot a jumper could give us fits as a defense as the season progresses.

  1. Conyers, I take it you vote for the short basketball shorts.

  2. The shorter the better. Tight fitting is good for me
