In all seriousness, I am old enough to remember the great Bama teams of the 70′s and Tennessee’s long losing streak to the Bear. Unlike many Vols fans, it doesn’t bother me to see Bama success on the field. I told the Poster know as Irish Jihad yesterday that I thought that Bama could do better. There has to be someone with a Bama Pedigree that actually gives a shit about the Bama Program out there. Not that Saban is not a good coach, but that Saban is clearly motivated by and for Nick Saban.

If I were an assistant coach or a potential recruit, I would be concerned that this guy’s honesty level is as deep as a frying pan (just look at how he handled leaving the Dolphins) and based on his previous track record, it not a matter if he will pack up and leave it is WHEN he will leave. What will Nick do when the next suitor comes to call? My bet is, that he will handle it the same way as he handled the Miami to Alabama process. Get pissy when asked of the rumors, deny, lie and then pull the trigger.
Nothing against LSU (loved the Fat Ass Irish ass-whippin last night BTW), but coaching in Alabama is a whole nother level of zany crazy shit. Nick Saban, if you do not produce lets see if your wife can go to the Piggly Wiggly without an armed escort.
Many have visited here and would argue that our “Build a Bear” Series made fun of Bama. Yes, I would answer it certainly did. It was great fun, and if Tennessee was making an idiot out themself everyday, I would make fun of them too. I have linked some of the ESPN Radio Podcasts from yesterday and added some of my thoughts on the Saban hire.

Nick Saban: Can you Trust him again?
Joe Theisman Comments (wow, Joe rips him)

Being paid what he is about to get will put pressure on Saban to produce now if not sooner. And we’re not just talking beating Auburn and Tennessee on a regular basis…we’re talking about SEC titles and National title shots. If Saban does not produce at least an SEC title in the next two years, the program down there will self-implode. Nick, they are expecting a BCS Bowl next season. No, I am not kidding.
I think Saban will be successful at Bama but if he is successful enough is the real question. Look at what they are already predicting for as early as next year. He had a high salary at LSU and when he was being courted by the Dolphins they said, enough, LSU would not counter offer. But what happens if he is not successful? They have put themselves in situation where he must win, and win big. But the landscape is far different from the days of the Bear and if they cheat now, it will get exposed. And they have also put financial strains on their entire athletic program. I wonder what non-football coaches at Bama think right now
And, if he succeeds at least a bit, there are far better coaches out there right now who will demand parity, if not bigger contracts than Saban’s. This does not bode well for the future of college football. Bama may have their coach today, but they may have put fatal cracks in the edifice of college football. Time will tell.

I find it hilarious that your first effort at a serious comment on this situation comes off absolutely assinine. I have been turning people onto your blog because of your “build a bear” series, which was hilarious.
First off, yeah, Saban is motivated for Saban. Who cares is the better question. If Saban shows up in Tuscaloosa, coaches as everyone assumes he is capable, then leaves in four years, will Alabama not be infinitely better off when he bolts?
As for the trust issues, I think it shows how everyone in the SEC is so petty. Sure its been fun to hammer Bama for the last decade just as they’ve hammered you for two decades before it, but come on. We all know that a list of at least 10 coaches in the last five years could be generated that behaved in the exact same manner before leaving a job. Where were the national cries about their character and trustworthiness???
“Bama may have their coach today, but they may have put fatal cracks in the edifice of college football” Seriously? Alabama has not put financial strains on their entire athletic program and you are a moron for even writing that. The licensing alone for Alabama merchandise and apparell is well over 100 million dollars a year. The football program generates a profit, as does the basketball program. The baseball program breaks even, as does gymnastics. The alumni base is clearly one of the most wealthy and generous groups in college athletics. Alabama has not put a strain on their athletic programs. As for college football, teams will pay what coaches are worth and no more. I realize your a Vol guy and assume you went to Tennessee which means I’l have to give you a pass on basic economics. Essentially, it works like this. If one jar of moonshine will get me buzzed, while the otherwill get me drunk, then I’m willing to pay a little more for the latter. If that jar ceases to get me drunk, then I’ll go down to the former. The idea of getting drunk in that analysis is called utility you retard. From here on out your going to have to use wikipedia or something to teach you.
You freaking idiot
BTW, thanks for the build a bear shit, it was hilarious, but stick to the funny clown.
Wow, the Bammers can’t stand it that EVERYONE ELSE ACROSS THE NATION sees that their new purchase is a lying dirtbag. On Montgomery morning sports radio, it was disgusting to hear Bammers calling in and saying that “Coach Saban really didn’t lie, he really didn’t.” And he didn’t violate his contract either, since it wasn’t a contract with the Dolphins, but an agreement betwen “two friends”, and WH agreed to let him go. Wow, so all you good churchgoing Bammers are telling your kids the Ten Commandments are the law…unless you’re a coach, then it’s ok? Did Saban inhale? Did he have sex with That Woman? Can this guy say or do anything and Bammers will excuse it?
Who cares if he lied??? They all do it! “I’ll leave Oxford in a pine box”…remember that.
First we were a substandard program that no one wanted to come to.
Now we land the big fish, but oops he’s a liar.
Now that the liar shit is starting to die, Bama’s ruining college athletics by paying too much money.
This is really pretty obvious don’t you think. We’re fine with the fact that we will not get any congratulations from most, but any one with a logical streak in their head can see whats going on there.
Also, a contract is not a promise you idiot, by definition its an agreement which has a penalty for non performance. NS simply decided to take the penalty for the non performance of the remainder of his contract.
and yes, I inhaled, had sex with that woman, and violated 7 of the 10 commandments, 3 of them twice. Now, since I’m not a preacher, but rather a football coach, I’m going to win football games. Thank you very much.
Nick, tongue my balls. I write what I want to write.
There’s the intellectual respones I expect from you loser
