Div. III Baseball Scoreboard, presented by Preparation H.

In a game that can only be described as “Sodomy on the diamond,” today, Bridgewater State’s Ben Altman and Patrick Higham tossed a combined eight strikeout five-hitter, facing five batters above the minimum as the Bridgewater State Bears defeated the Newbury College Nighthawks 57-1. [Click here for the carnage.]

Bridgewater sent 67 batters to the plate, collecting 44 hits in the process. Over six innings, their box score read as such: 13, 9, 9, 16, 8, 2. Only three HRs in the game and Bridgewater left 16 men on base. Christ, that’s sloppy.

Hopefully, Newbury’s manager took his troops to Pizza Hut after the game, because everyone’s a winner in Division III!

  1. Its pretty sad when you score more runs than your attendance.

  2. Of those 67 batters, let it be known that the 2-3-4 were in the entire game.

Yes, this isn’t little league where we need to be concerned about the kids’ feelings, and call the game when it gets too out of hand, but this is D-III, with a team that was only playing its third baseball game on a varsity level in the history of the college. This should qualify for the “asterisk rule” often associated with the steroids era.

BSC is doomed to be brought down to Earth tomorrow when they face off against Wheaton in a doubleheader – Wheaton being ranked 5th in Division III.

For today, I’m embarrassed to say that I am an alumnus of Bridgewater State College. But after the doubleheader tomorrow, this story will be completely irrelevant and some other ridiculous matchup will trump this record in no time.
