Indignant Over Not Getting Drafted

The NFL Draft. A day when dreams come true and opportunities for young ballplayers become possible.

And when dreams are shattered.

Nothing is more enjoyable than when non-draftees voice there displeasure with being overlooked. Especially when they went to a high profile school, were productive….and left early. The indignant surprise with which they and their families question how they weren’t selected is unmatched.

This years most vocal non-draftee…………………….Notre Dame’s Darius Walker.

“Shocked, shocked,” he said Tuesday, when asked to describe his general reaction. “It’s kind of hard to believe, to be honest with you. How does a guy that’s fourth on the all-time rushing list for Notre Dame not get drafted?”

Fair question.

And it’s good to see that Walkers father has stayed rational about the situation.

“Even if he ran a 4.7, he should have been drafted,” he said. “To me, as a father, he deserved to be drafted very highly. I’m not even talking about the second day. I was disappointed he didn’t go the first day. He deserved to be on the first day.

Maybe next year, scouts will take into consideration the draft boards put together by players’ fathers.

I think everyone was a bit shocked by this kid’s decision to leave school early and now he’s paying for it. He’s a Rosenhaus guy and I wouldn’t be surprised if Drew inflated the kid to think he was the next Barry Sanders. Should’ve stayed in school.

Agreed. I used to think that all women from Louisiana were the devil walking the earth. Drew Rosenhaus should be added to my list.

    Wasn’t he TO’s agent?

I know he was TO’s agent in Philly during the “no comment” interview in his drive way.

Leave it to a Notre Dame player to think he’s worth much, much more than he really is. Perhaps if you’d have played well, helped your team win important games (vs. Michigan, Ohio State, LSU, USC, etc…) you would have been drafted. As Quinn found out, being from Our Holy Mother doesn’t necessarily mean you’re any good (just look across the playing field at your defense). Truly, had Brian Brohm or sadly even most like Eric Ainge come out, Quinn wouldn’t have gone in the first day either. Imagine if Chad Henne or John David Booty had come out, Quinn might have been a 3rd rounder! Notre Dame just doesn’t mean what it use to…

I could be ND’s fourth leading rusher if I was playing Airforce, Army, Navy, and North Carolina every week.

That is about as shocking as a cow taking a dump in a cow pasture.

His first mistake was leaving school early.

His second mistake was not consulting with Charlie Weis about the decision to leave early.

His third mistake was not utlizing Charlie Weis and his NFL connections once he decided to go pro.

His fourth mistake was not having enough quickness for the NFL.

Navy, Army, and Air Force aren’t NFL franchises. That’s why he wasn’t drafted.

Wonder who will see playing time in Canada first… Leak or Walker?

actually, i am not sure he could have done any better. the irish will be worse next year and he is not going to get any quicker. decent college player that never had a chance to make it in the nfl.

walker actually had something like 122 yards rushing against LSU. by far the best performance by an ND player in that game. however, you idiots just decided to mention the four worst teams they played. Having said that he probably shouldve been like a sixth rounder. hes too small and slow to play in the pros.

You say he should have been drafted in the sixth.

Then say he is too small and slow to play in the pros.

And everyone else is an idiot? Really?

You, my friend….YOU are a genius!

leak – hes too short and doesnt have a strong enough arm to play nfl quarterback. i dont care if he won 4 championships at florida. he wont even be a backup.

walker – hes too short and slow for notre dame. he seemed slow even at the college level at times. i was surprised when he decided to go pro. he may catch on with someone but will be out of the nfl within 5 years. and im a huge notre dame fan.

does anyone know anything about this tennessee defensive tackle green bay drafted? ive never heard of him.

I agree Walker should never have come out this year. The problem is he talked to these so called experts that said he would definately go in a particular round and got him built up to more than what he was this year.

As much as I hate Florida if Leak wants to make in the nfl he is going to have to become a wide receiver or running back. He won’t even be a practice squad quarterback.

Funny, you being a ND fan, it’s odd that you say that.

People said the same thing about Joe Theismann.

As many as Heath Shuler led his team to…

But your point is well taken.

How bout we use Pat Sullivan as the reference point for Leak…a wonderful college player who had skills that just didn’t translate to the NFL….oh, but….Sullivan and Auburn never won anything…damn the luck. It was almost a perfect juxtaposition.
