Sooners are Athlon’s # 7 Team
There’s a new signal-caller in Norman whose identity has yet to be named. Whoever emerges on opening day will have all the on-field benefits of being a Sooner, however, including tailback Allen Patrick, receiver Malcolm Kelly and one of the nation’s top-rated defenses. [Athlon]
Along with Georgia, OU is to blame for the rise of mid-major football programs. How you ask? Georgia losing to West Virginia in the Sugar Bowl empowered an entire conference of Tecmo Bowl teams (HT GaJake) to believe that they can ball with the big boys and created horribly obnoxious fanbases (Louisville and WVU). The OU loss to Boise State is going to create the same kind of vacuum.
Mack Brown keeps Oklahoma football relevant. Either with the recruits he doesn’t sign; recruits he signs but fails to develop; and the National Championships he leaves on the table. (sounds just like the real UT …Tennessee.. too, GBO!!)
What if Bob Stoops and Mack Brown switched jobs? With all the 5 star players Mack Brown has year in year out and all he has is one National Championship, and that it was because of Vince Young. He sent a bunch of players to the NFL. (sounds like the real UT too, GBO!!)

How would Stoops do with all of that talent if he was at Texas? If Stoops were at Texas, would football at Oklahoma be irrelevant? Here is the obligatory Florida jab, Barry Switzer and the renegade Sooner teams are Herban Meyer’s blueprint for success.

Ok, in defense of UGA losing to WVU……. Nevermind. I knew what the consequences were if UGA were to lose that game. I knew what would spew from the big leasters. Anyone watching that game saw that UGA didn’t start playing football until the second half, but it was too late. They mistakingly took the Mountainqueers for granted and it cost them and us UGA fans and the fans of the SEC, ACC, the Big-10(11), and the Big-12. Pac-10 doesn’t count because their stadiums are too small.
Anyways, I knew it and it all came true. WVU and big east fans thought that beating UGA crowned them champions of the universe, or so it seemed. Then again, it is kind of an honor that game is the biggest victory in the history of WVU football, whereas had UGA won that game it would’ve been another scratch on the bed post.
Older college football fans don’t think as lowly of WVU and the Big East as some of the younger guys do as we remember some decent Pitt, WVU, and Syracuse teams. However, yes, the Big East is playing the computer or their thumbless grand dad in Tecmo Bowl.
I used to cruise around the WVU message boards as I’ve liked some WVU teams in the past, but the fans have become more delusional than gamecock fans. Even though they’re in the SEC ‘cock fans cheer like a bunch of retards on a fire station tour when they beat UT, UGA, or UF. They do get the edge over WVU fans only because their team is forced to play a tougher schedule every season. Keep in mind that WV folks still claim John Denver as the greatest thing to come out of the state. So if seeing WVU beat UGA brought a little closure to their life, then I’m kind of happy for them. It’d be nice to be content with such mediocrity I guess.
