The poster child for everything that is both evil and wrong with Florida Gator Football was arrested…again. A player given many chances by the Discipline Master Herban Meyer has been arrested again for drugs (surprise!!!He is a Gator). Avery Atkins had hoped to rejoin the Gates this year but Meyer already a new stable of future drug addict Defensive Backs [Herban Meyers Face of Florida Football]. Sure Florida fans will disavow this kid. “he was a Zook recruit” or “Coach Meyer thought he was a bad egg!!”. Meyer signed the kid, he was/is a Gate.
Avery, your services are no longer needed in Gainesville. You have been replaced. Atkins should think about going to a B-List BCS school like Louisville or WVU. They like criminals just as much as Florida.
The arrest follows another in early June in which Daytona Beach police said they found him with cocaine, drug paraphernalia and a concealed weapon.
Atkins, 20, was released on $1,000 bail and did not immediately return phone calls made to his aunt’s home. His most recent known cell phone number is no longer in service.
Atkins has had repeated problems with the law since leaving the University of Florida last summer. Aside from his June run-in, he was also charged in May with felony aggravated battery, records show.
Last year, he was charged twice with domestic battery on the mother of his child, Avery Atkins Jr., and entered into a deferred prosecution on both cases. That agreement had a stipulation that stated that if Atkins stayed out of trouble for nine months and completed a 26-week domestic violation intervention program, the state would dismiss all charges.

Hey, as I’ve let it be known on here several times, I do NOT agree with Meyer’s lack of discipline. He (James) should have been suspended a minimum of 3 games and his scholarship taken away for this semester (which is the other part of the punishment).
My point is that it’s a lot easier for Fulmer, Meyer or any coach for that matter to make an example of a player who doesn’t play. If it was Ainge selling the crack, I doubt he would have been suspended for 3 games.
In all honesty, I don’t think Fulmer has that wiggle room anymore.

My vote goes to the crack head. At least the crack dealer was never on scholarship. It makes me wonder though, if some ganja can increase your vertical, what can some ready rock do for a Geightor’s athletic performance?

While it’s easy, as a Gator, to feel superior (the national championships only enhanced this trait,) idiots like Atkins do bring me down a peg. It’s easy and knee-jerky (not a word, I know) to say “but we don’t” do this, or”those guys” do that, but it’s a morally vacant gesture. Equally empty is enjoying a measure of schadenfreude in the scandals of others. I, for one, will attempt to remain above the fray the next time, for example, Tennessee produces another Jamal Anderson.
