Who will win the SEC East?
Here are the results of a current poll on SI.com:
Florida – 42%
Georgia – 23%
Tennessee – 15%
South Carolina – 12%
Vanderbilt – 4%
Kentucky 3%
Florida winning the poll seems reasonable to me (as long as court appearances don’t
interrupt practice/game schedules). Herban lost to much on defense to be a favorite and despite winning the NC, his vaunted Spread Option never clicked until Glendale. Of course, he had Chris “Hookslide” Leak running the offense so that had to be a downer for the “Coach” because Leak is a pussy. The Bow, if he doesn’t get decapitated should be what the Herb needs. I think the young Gators are a lot stronger than most people are giving them credit.
The East is such a crap-shoot this year you may as well go with the defending national champs. I really have no idea who is going to win though. The typical top 3 are all extremely talented but with some potential weaknesses. Talent-wise Carolina is as close as it’s ever been (though not yet close enough I think). Kentucky is definitely not as deep as the top 4, but Woodson is good enough to make them an outside threat too. Vandy has no chance, but they could end up deciding who the winner is with an upset or two this season.
If I had to choose, it would be Tennessee. I think with the experience at QB they should be there. Ainge better get them somewhere this season because if he doesn’t its just another overrated Tennessee squad. But if I’m betting money I take the VOLS.
