The proud Capstone Recruiting Tradition continues as the Bear, who is with Jesus (and Logan Young), smiles down at Nick (Pic above by author unknown). Sure these violations are considered Secondary violations. But the problem here is that everyone’s just out to get Bama after the whole Young/DuBose/Means episode dicked up Bama’s commerce. All of the SEC schools are jealous of Bama’s tradition and success. We all know who made the SEC into what it is today, it was Alabama. They have 49 Football National Championships, hell yes we are envious.
The Bible, in the Old Testament, says that Bammers can’t read and and the other half are just dimwits. So lets all pull together to help the Bammers so that the Crimson Nation will “get it”. In Bama’s defense, I have to ask some questions and make some recommendations:
On Dec. 7, 2006, Alabama reported a booster having inappropriate contact with a recruit during a game in a skybox area. An NCAA bylaw restricts such contact to only a greeting.
Does the NCAA spell out how long the greeting can be or what greetings are acceptable. Is “small talk” a violation of this rule? Bammers really need left and right limits on recruiting. Frankly, they just don’t get the whole recruiting thing at all. What worked 5 years ago doesn’t work so good anymore. After all Bama did get in some pretty big trouble buying players in Memphis. Recommend that the NCAA provide vignettes/examples of what is acceptable and unacceptable for Bammers.
On Jan. 26, a graduate assistant provided transportation to and from campus for a recruit’s mother and a family friend for the player’s official visit. A school is not allowed to transport friends, relatives or legal guardians for an official visit.
I can kind of understand a rule that prohibits providing a taxi service to recruits’ friends and relatives. But I’d say it pales in comparison with giving a recruit money under the table, or even paying a high school coach a lot of money to “influence” a recruits decision. Not saying that Bammers ever did anything like that in Memphis, just thinking out loud here….
A violation reported Feb. 7 that involved a booster providing a recruit with a book on the history of Alabama football during in-person contact at the high school.
Sure, it’s a gift to a recruit, but again, it’s not the tried and true Bammer money under the table. Plus it involves a booster, so the university has little control over them (if any?). The real question is did the Alabama Football Book provide currency conversion rates? Does the book use historic inflation rate data to compare the value of recruits from 2007 versus a recruit from the 1970s?

Saban has to learn that he has to stay above the law….don’t sink into grey area, and certainly don’t fall prey to powerful boosters. It’s not worth it! We need to rebuilt the program, not further bury it.
