QBs to watch when practice starts

Another WTF-list from a WTF-publication that is quickly becoming as irrelevant as Big East Football, the Sporting News [link]. I have never heard of some of these guys. So again, I say WTF?

Five underrated QBs

Chase Daniel, Missouri: Must play better in big games (3 TDs, 5 INT in losses to Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Nebraska). Who?

Matt Grothe, South Florida: Still developing as a thrower, but has the moxie and leadership of the great ones. Who? Oh yeah, I think this team is in the Big East…I think

Dan LeFevour, Central Michigan: Will he continue to develop without Brian Kelly? Who?

Justin Willis, SMU: So his numbers (26 touchdowns, 6 INTs) were against weak C-USA competition, so what? He has a live arm and makes good decisions. Who?

Sarah Jessica John Parker Wilson, Alabama: Had a very good season last year despite protection problems. Watch how he develops under new offensive coordinator Major “Ginger” Applewhite. Possible friction: Wilson has very bad hair while Coach Saban has great hair. Can Vidal Sasson tame Wilson’s unruly locks?

Five on the spot

Erik Ainge, Tennessee: For all the “turnaround” hype last season, he had 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions — and no touchdowns and four interceptions in losses to Florida, LSU and Penn State.Played in two series versus LSU recovering from an ankle injury from the week prior.

Rudy Carpenter, Arizona State: Forget about Dirk Koetter’s decision last year (it was the right one); Carpenter simply didn’t play well at times last season because teams adjusted and game-planned and ASU didn’t. ASU has some hot chicks [Tuna]

Sam Keller, Nebraska: His one-time first-round status in the NFL draft and Nebraska’s season hinge on his performance. That’s all.

Mike Teel, Rutgers: It’s not a stretch to say if Teel played better last season, Rutgers would’ve been unbeaten and playing Ohio State in the national title game.

Drew Weatherford, Florida State: Will the new coaches develop a new Drew?

Five on the rise

Nate Davis, Ball State: Still learning the position; most dangerous player in the MAC by the end of the season. Who?

Josh Freeman, Kansas State: When he was good last year, he was really good. When he was bad, he didn’t have a clue. Tons of talent; can the staff get it all out of him?

Matt Stafford, Georgia: The next big thing in college football. Big arm, big attitude, big charisma big belly, big appetite. Won the UGA Pie Eating Contest in 2006.

Tim Tebow, Florida: Of course he can throw it. The question is: can he stay healthy if he’s running it 15-20 times a game? Scored 890 on the SAT. A single digit IQ midget that Herban is counting on to continue the trend of rockheads winning the NC [Vince Young and Chris Leak].

Juice Williams, Illinois: I know, I know — he was horrible at times last season. Mike Locksley will get him ready to play, it’s going to click for him, and the Illini are going bowling. I can feel it, people. Two words: Ron Zook. Zook build champions…for the coach that replaces him after he is fired

The top five

Pat White, West Virginia: Rigghhhhhht Ask me to pick one guy to start a team, I’ll take White. Pat White can’t throw… PERIOD. Watching White is similar to a friendly tranny driving a tank. You could blow people up, but you would rather put on lipstick and listen to Billy Idol.

Colt Brennan, Hawaii: I’d love — LOVE — to see him in a BCS game against some hoity-toity SEC or Big Ten team. Bama had one of its worst years in recent memory, and Brennan still couldn’t beat them. Teams like LSU & Florida would have absolutely crushed that guy. Do the names David Klingler and Andre Ware ring a bell?

John David Booty, USC: Two words: Heisman Trophy. Three words: West Coast Bias.

Brian Brohm, Louisville: Come on, admit it. Aren’t you at least wondering how Brohm will play without killer QBs coach/play-calling genius Bobby Petrino? We say that he will excel in the B-List BCS Big East Conference, but then again, who couldn’t?

Andre Woodson, Kentucky: All those SEC defensive coordinators have had an entire offseason to game plan last year’s big surprise. How will the UK staff respond? We think Randy Sanders will recommend running consecutive reverses
