Herban Meyer will no doubt be ridiculed for his decision to let his players play the game, great men often are, but true fans recognize the service he has given to the the game of football, the University of Florida and his Gator Football Team. We could all learn from Meyer’s shining examples and show our appreciation and love for the Gator Nation. So the next time you run into a Gator player in a bar, whorehouse or crack den, make sure that you buy him a drink or a joint or assault rifle or heck why not him all 3? Just tell that Gator player not to worry about that drive home, Coach has him covered.
Sports Illustrated’s Stuart Mandell dares to challenge the success of Herban Meyer’s discipline program [SI]. As with any true natural leader, Meyer quickly attributes the success of his highly successful program to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The Florida coach said … that he called Goodell earlier this summer to personally thank him for instituting his hard-line stance against player misbehavior.

It is hard to say who had a tougher summer. Goodell had deal with Pac Man Jones, Chris Henry and Michael Vick. Herban had his own set of problem:. Criticism of Meyer’s program has been largely muted amidst the adulation surrounding last year’s title season and February’s top-rated recruiting class, but some critics have alleged hypocrisy on the part of Meyer, who, upon his December 2004 hiring, pledged a hard-line approach to discipline. Fortunately for Meyer, the State Attorney in Gainesville is a Florida grad so things turned out for the best for the Gators. [Gator Arrests]
At the SEC Media Days, a reporter (A Gator fan poured urine on the reporter later) recklessly asked Meyer, “whether his experiences with Avery Atkins (who died last month) have “changed you or the way you run your program,” the coach appeared to freeze behind the podium. Most Gators are trying to distance the Atkins death away from the program, but it is the first time that it has been asked. Could Florida have done more?
Most Gator fans like the Board Moderator at SECTalk.com, GatorHunter, prefer to distance themselves away from Atkins with comments like this, “Yea…I love how the Gators get “credit” for what happened to Avery Atkins…..he was thrown off the team, yet, the Gators are credited with “crack possession”..One word immediately comes to mind….Classy!!
Wow, the Gator Nation is lucky. You really see the gem you got in Coach Meyer. What with all that pressure at UF and all…..having to make the right decision or even a moral decision is just too much. Since he only recruits the top 1% of 1%, the Percy Harvins and Chris Raineys, there shouldn’t be any worries as the troublesome Zook recruits leave. Thank God, you have Herban to make the decision he made–right or not. Moral or not. I mean, if it gets you a championship then screw morals, right? We win! And the players learn to live the right way. Wait, um, the players learn to live like nobody can touch them.

Awesome pic. I’m so jealous.
Tennessee Football:
Blacklisting Linda Bensel-Meyers after she spilled the beans on the grade-changing that went on for Football players in the 90s. Fat Phil in bed with the NCAA because he turns in other teams to make the NCAA look away from all the shit going down at UT. Boosters paying thousands of $$$ in cash handouts to starting QB during the 1998 NC Season (basically, the same offense that Oklahoma just got popped for by the NCAA — “I mean, if it gets you a championship then screw morals, right? We win!” 8 arrests in 2005, 7 arrests in 2006, and 1 arrested crack dealer kicked off the team in 2007. You have no fuckin’ room to talk, Jai. A Tennessee fan “preaching” about morals? Now THAT’s funny!
As for Avery Atkins, UF (and Meyer) is damned if they do, damned if they don’t. How are we Gators “distancing” ourselves from Atkins? He’s been kicked off the team (the 2nd time) for over a year! The kid was given multiple chances and let back on the team but kept getting in trouble with the law in the meantime. If Meyer allows the kid to stay on the team, he’s ridiculed for his lack of discipline by people like you for allowing a REPEAT offender/woman-beater (thug) to remain on the team. If Meyer finally says enough is enough and lets the kid go (which is what happened), and the kid gets mixed up with numerous drugs and winds up dead, people in the media – like the reporter in this article – are now questioning whether Meyer did “enough”. Unbelievable.
It’s a very sad story. But you can only help someone for so long before they have to start helping themselves.
LL
I think that is a blog entry from Sports Illustrated. It didn’t mention anything about Tennessee’s off field issues from this season.
You’re right, it didn’t. Am I mistaken or is the last paragraph not your thoughts? I’m just pointing out how you’re the pot calling the kettle black – again.
But hey, if your mission to find fault with the Orange and Blue makes you feel better about the shit program you have up in Knoxville, so be it.
Oh yeah, the harviin and Rainey thing? Yeah, I worry about UFs future when those 2 get arrested (notice I did not say IF).
Careful Jai, this cat may start throwing cups of piss at you and yours. Heck I guess that’s better than getting your skull caved in by a keg.
Lame.
yeah, lame. They call it Motts Apple Juice in Gainesville

Does any team in the SEC NOT cheat?
AngryEer:
Every SEC team “cheats” except for Tennessee. Fat Phil has worked out a deal with the NCAA where as long as he’s consistently turning in other programs for violations, the NCAA will turn a blind eye to Knoxville.
Angry, congrats on (again) looking like a buffoon. WVU has no less than 5 major NCAA infractions. That’s only slightly shittier than UF’s 4. UT, by the way is holding it’s own at 2. Ding fries are done.
And LL, you “consistently” remind me of a bammer. Although my definition of “consistently” means ‘on a regular basis’. For what it’s worth, my definition of a “bammer” means ‘complete douchebag’.
Tyrone:
You can’t debate the facts in my comment (#2) in regards to all the shenanigans at UT that go unpunished by the NCAA for some strange reason. So name call all you want. Name calling over the internet is tough, isn’t it!?! You’re not getting any smarter.
Might want to check on those fries. People don’t like to wait too long in the drive-thru, do they?
You guys read that story about how consumption of the sticky icky makes you 40% more likely to be come psychotic, right? Hey, I’d take being a stoner and acting like a woman over being a rat like Fat-ass Fulmer was when he turned in Saban because he couldn’t beat him. Watch out for Cal Vols — they’re fucking pissed about last year.
Oh my, you heard about the Linda Bensel-Myers incident? Damn. I saw that on Sportscenter too, I guess that makes us both experts on what really went down. These shenanigans went ‘unpunished’ because, well the NCAA was never really involved. Really this is akin to me saying that the kid who’s skull was cracked with a keg at UF is bullshit – there’s clearly ‘shenanigans’ going on between the NCAA and UF, because this incident went unpunished.
Again, quit with the bammer conspiracy theories. Name calling is not going to make me smarter, but it is fun and makes me smile while I man the grill. Would you like an apple pie with that?
Conspiracy theorist should shampoo my brothers crotch. Exactly what does the NCAA have to gain for being in bed with Florida, you gimp?
I saw it own Sportscenter and read several articles on Bensel-Meyers. It’s just strange how after she “blew the whistle”, The UT Administration seemed to demote her pretty rapidly.
Actually, Taurean Charles was kicked off the UF team for the “keg-throwing” incident.
And no, no apple pie for me. But that doesn’t mean I’m un-American! U-S-A!
Good point, T-KGB.
So Tyrone Biggums — exactly how is kids acting like kids and clandestine administrators the same? Shit, I’ve been smashed in the head with a keg and busted off some rounds with an A to the K but I’ve never been investigated for cheating. Recruiting idiot thugs and deliberately breaking NCAA rules are very separate. It obtuse to assume coaches are omnipotent when it comes to their programs. Thugs or not — gimme my trophies. T-Bow for life!
And don’t forget that for every Atkins there’s a Gaffney — who actually tuned himself around, got back on the team as a walk on and made it to the show. You know these kids — its a character crap shoot, especially in Florida. Arguing on who has a “dirtier” program is retarded, though. Pressing the limits of the the recruiting rules is the coach’s job — if you aint cheatin you aint tryin, right?
AAAAAAnd — is anyone else pissed about Boise St. getting a pre-season #5? No shit they’re going to be 8 and 0 in their conference at the end of the season — their toughest game is Fresno St.
They got #5? Jesus…well at least Fresno St. is semi tough…unlike the majority of Big Least teams.
Wow…this blogger has a major “hard on” for the GATORS!!! Envy is a scarrrrry thing!!
T-KGB,
mad funny.. But you gotta love gainesville. And wasnt that keg throwing thing during zook? or did all the years blend together?
And that was reported plenty, along with marcus thomas’s dumb ass getting kicked off after like 25 tries
Gameday Shirts
Intersesting how the Gates suddenly come out of the woodwork w/ “everybody does it”. Most of “everybody” gets violated by the NCAA. The Sooners and Canes had a run like that for awhile and look what happened to them?
fsudirectory-
Yeah, Gainesville sucks. Tallahassee is where all the action’s at!
Linebackers hiding in bushes getting tasered by cops and others slamming their girlfriends down on sidewalks. Quarterbacks parking in handicapped spots and others having bad acid trips at hippie music fests and blaming it on “lyme disease”.
Where do we sign up?!
you people are douchebags. As a disinterested party, I would rather go to Gainesville. At least you can buy and smoke weed without getting in prosecuted.

Wow. Look at you folks. had a great time cracking on UF. I read the whole thing but I didn’t find exactly what the problem was. Again…seems like jealousy more than anyhthing. I guess it’s the fact that I”m a UF grad and i’[m 26 and make $120K a year that blurs my vision…
Either way..the sooner you folks realize that urban is like 60-10 in 6 years and has no desire to go to the NFL, the better.
He is owning the SEC.
Holla!
Rings,
I am 18 and make $8,000,000 a year. Do you see how stupid you sound now? Herban will go where the money takes him, like Saban. Maybe its to the NFL, maybe not.
Go drink some Mott’s Apple Juice shithead.
You know, Rings might be the d00d that sells the weed to the Gator players…..ever think about that?
Only making $120 a year selling dope to the Geightors? He must be selling some nasty Mexican weed. He know them Gates love their sticky icky!
BTW, a lot of good posts over the past three weeks, I have had limited access to the internets until now.
Thanks. It is WVU week for the next month
Let the good times roll and the couches burn!
