This morning marks the release of the year’s first USAToday Coaches Poll. The choice for no. 1 is no surprise with USC with LSU, Florida, Texas and Michigan rounding out the top five. Nothing groundbreaking here. I do think Florida at number 3 might be a bit high given all that they lost from last season especially on defense, ditto for no. 10 Ohio State but on the other side of the ball. I’m a little surprised that Michigan comes in at five given all that they are returning on offense (Henne, Hart, Manningham).

I’ve really gotta ask you Tennessee fans how you feel about the 15th ranking your Vols got in this poll. I’m a little surprised. I thought more 10 or 11 for UT especially when you look at who’s above them particularly Georgia and a Cal team that the Vols manhandled last year in Knoxville.

*Sidenote: It should be noted that the West Virginia Mountaineers appear on this poll behind not 1 but 2 SEC schools. And are the only Big East school in the top ten versus three from the Big Ten and two from the Big 12 and SEC respectively. Just saying.

I can’t help but believe that the WVU comment was aimed at me. At the end of the day, my Eers will be National Champions. Mark it down

I was guessing around 12-15 pre-season for the Vols. We lost our top 3 recievers and didn’t exactly have a strong ground game to base a new offense around. Georgia and Florida are both a bit of a reach.

“No… the real question is who in the hell wasted a vote on 0-12 Duke, Are you kiddin me?”

The answer to that question is none other than the Ole Ball Sac coach himself, Steve Spurrier.
