Vols On The Verge Of Championship Game
So close yet so far away. That’s how it must seem to Phillip Fulmer. That’s how it seems to me anyway.
I don’t think Tennessee will win in Lexington. It is just too improbable that this team can finish the drill.
That being said, if Tennessee beats Kentucky, this Tennessee football team will go down in history as one of my favorites of all time. I also think a win in Lexington makes Phillip Fulmer the SEC Coach of the Year.
The talk in the national media this weekend was strangely all about the forthcoming matchup between LSU and Georgia in the SEC Championship game. Everyone seems to have concluded that Kentucky will beat Tennessee for the first time in nearly 25 years this Saturday.
I hope the Vols prove them wrong. I love the cockroach nature of this team. You can’t kill them. But I think Tennessee is too young and Kentucky will have the perfect combination of motivation and just enough talent to finally end the longest losing streak in the nation to the same team.
But if the Vols can pull out one more victory, it will be the sweetest win in a long time for me personally. I think UGA is a solid team this year, but the fact is that Tennessee beat the Dawgs handily in Knoxville and it could have been worse. The real vindication for me will be seeing the Tennessee fans that turned on Fulmer so early in the season squirm as they make a choice to either jump back on the bandwagon or part ways with a coach that will likely be at Tennessee for years to come.

SEC coach of the year should go to a coach that leads his team past expectations. Fulmer has lead his team to expectations. 3 or 4 losses are what we expect Fulmer to lose. winning the East doesn’t reflect the quality of this team.
i think Croom wins SEC coach of the year. people figured they would have another bad season and that Croom would get fired. instead Croom has lead Miss St to 6 wins and will be favored to beat ole miss on friday.
I agree on Croom.
I also agree with the majority that believe UT will lose in Lexington. Granted, I’m HOPING they lose. Kentucky is a good team, and I just don’t them dropping another weekend. Sure, they are out of it, but after a pretty decent season, and being #1 LSU, they can only better their bowl status.
They did beat UGA, and I will give them credit for that. As far as it could have been worse, no one will know, so I don’t see the point in using that as validation to further concrete the smack in the mouth they gave the Dawgs. Credit is given.
We will see. This weekend will be a big one. I’m feeling a few more Top 5 upsets.
Yeah it’ll be pretty amazing if the Vols can scrape one win in a stadium without 100,000 fans on their side.
UT just can’t play when people aren’t cheering for them. They need that rub on the back and people singing Rocky Top 995,374 times before they can win.
When they roll up to Commonwealth Stadium some of the empty seats will confuse them and the fact that the fans are wearing blue will just throw them for a whole ‘nother loop. UT is a good team … @ home, but they suck on the road and if you can’t win on the road, you’re just a Big Fat Fulmer.
I hope UT loses, but I really don’t think it’s going to happen. UT has much more on the line than UK and that will show on Saturday. UK can only be the spoiler whereas UT must win for a shot at the SEC title, a shot a BCS game, and for all of the “fire Fulmer” talk to go away for a long time. Fulmer can lock his life down at UT with a SEC title this year and there are a lot of SEC rival fans that will be glad to see him stay.
I will be glad to see Ainge go. I knew I would when I saw him take the field as a freshman.
While I might can agree with you on alot of that, I just don’t see UT pulling it out. The pressure is even tighter now, since it’s down to the wire. They aren’t at home like they were against Vandy, and they have a terrible road record to boot!
UK has just as much on the line as UT I think. UK has had a decent season, with a terrible finish. They are too good a team to go out like this, and I think they are going to save face and not lose the last game at home. UT wants it, but I just don’t see them doing it after just barely, barely squeeking by Vandy, due to a missed FG with :30 remaining on the clock… At home.
Nothing sucks like the Big Orange. UT was damn lucky Vandy missed the field goal. It would make me happy to see these orange pieces of shit lose to Kentucky. UT fans are way to cocky and arrogant that it makes me sick.
Ehh.. Everyone is too cocky for their own team.. It’s just the nature of the beast..
I want to see them lose, because I don’t think they are the best team. Plain and simple.
Pee Wee, go make some knuckle children
HEY PEE WEE, You must be an Alabama fan. Because you suck as much as they do. GO VOLS.!!!!!
Nick Saban can go eat a big one… Baton Rouge is rooting for the Vols. Playing Georgia in Georgia is never a good idea and the UT women are hotter. See ya’ll on Bourbon Steet!
Pee Wee: TN has some of the classier fans in the SEC. You obviously don’t get around to the stadiums too much. How can TN fans be cocky when half of them are angry and admitting that Fulmer is leading a sinking ship and change is necessary? The only thing cocky and arrogant are AL fans who run and hide for 15 years when there team isn’t awesome and come out talking smack to everyone once Saban was hired.
As far as the game, I’ve been worried about KY all year. They match up well, want to erase a 20+ year losing streak, we suck on the road, and we are the most inconsistent college football team on the Earth! We might come out on Sat. and kick the crap out of them or we could easily look like AL against Louisiana Monroe and get killed (ok not THAT bad). I said before the SC game that we would win out and lose to KY just to give us fans some hope for salvaging the season only to crush us once again and leave us shaking our heads.
Tech takes uga….Richt doesn’t have any other hocus pocus to pull
That little mexican kid is a pretty good rb
