I received this in an email this morning:

A very reliable source has informed CrimsonTider.com that former Auburn coach and Sports Commentator Terry Bowden is close to accepting the West Virginia Head Coaching position. Bowden said in a statement released by his publicist. “I made a full commitment to get back into coaching almost two years ago. Coming home to West Virginia would obviously be the dream job for me,” Terry Bowden had a successful stint with Auburn which included an 11-0 season in 1993. Even more appealing for WVU fans is the fact that his father, legendary coach Bobby Bowden, coached at the school from 1970-1975. Bobby Bowden was 42-26-0 before he departed for greener pastures at Florida State.

West Virginia athletic director Ed Pastilong didn’t immediately return a telephone message Tuesday morning but sources claim that all is left is “crossing some I’s and dotting some T’s”. The package is said to be near the $1.78 million earned by former head coach Rich Rodriguez, who took the job as head coach at the University of Michigan after seven seasons in Morgantown, where he built West Virginia into a Big East power, won the conference championship this year for the fourth time in five seasons and went 60-26 overall.

This selection is my worst fucking nightmare. A Bowden is coming home? I just can’t understand why ANYONE would ever want Terry Bowden to coach WVU!

For instance:

1. He hasn’t coached in 10 years!
2. He is a horrible recruiter.
3. He is condescending towards his assistant coaches.
4. His loyalty SHOULD be questioned. Regardless of how loyal he is to his alma mater, he did leave Auburn in the middle of the year in 1998.
5. Although he won 11 games at Auburn in 1994, it was with Pat Dye’s players.
6. Significant NCAA recruiting violations while at Auburn.
7. I will NOT go to WVU football games if Terry Bowden becomes head coach.
8. He made that kid cry, fat fuck.

as if the Buckeyes didn’t already suck enough. They get the version of LSU that VT got to meet, without all of their players

5. Barkin' Dawg - December 20, 2007

Eer,

If this comes to pass you are officially hosed for the foreseeable future. The Bowden curse spreads…..

Was reading an article from the St Pete Times this morning (courtesy of a Gate that I know) that was calling for FSU to forfeit their bowl appearance because of the latest scandal involving test fraud. Nothing spectacular in the article other than the paragraph outlining that this involved internet courses about music and that the elder Bowden “thinks that the internet is the place where Spider Man lives”. Funny as hell!!

You’ve outlined all the reasons WVU shouldn’t hire this gelatinous pile of dicksnot, now you just have to hope that the administration is smart enough not to pull the trigger on this deal.

I wouldn’t take that bet….

6. Ears Whitworth - December 20, 2007

the Eer has used all of you. Re-read the “email”, slowly…

What a bunch tinfoil hat wearing douches…

7. Ears Whitworth - December 20, 2007

funny shit, a bunch of ass punchers get used up by am Eer!!!LOL

8. TideDruid - December 20, 2007

Yeah, that’s about as reliable as that West By God Virginia ordeal a few days ago. It’s baseless garbage. Still, don’t hire Bowden.

9. SeminoleUprising - December 20, 2007

I won’t knock BB he has done a lot for FSU but the jury is out on La Infante Terribles. I have to admit I can’t help butt smile when I picture him prowling the sidelines and Jeff in the box unleashing the fury of the I-formation on hapless opponents.

I will know more when I see his assistants collected. If he is smart and the jury is still out on that, he selects someone who knows something about the spread which WVU players are accustomed to then maybe?

Tell that gate with the spiderman comics to do what he can however to stop all the french kissing and crying on the sidelines of football games. It is becoming a bit scary.

14. LL - December 20, 2007

(As I pointed out in another thread, AngryEer):

When you really think about it. Terry Bowden is the perfect fit for WVU. Case in point:

- He’s a WVU grad.

- He already knows the words to “Country Roads”.

- He recently said that it would be his “dream job”.

- He’s real short so he suffers from “Little Man’s Syndrome”. So he has the personality to lead WVU since they always will be the “little guy” unable to hang with the “Big Boys”.

- He’s a quitter. This falls in line perfectly with ‘Eer football on how they simply “quit” against Pitt with a trip to the BCS title game on the line.

A match made in heaven! Oh Dear Lord! Country Roads! Hi-Fives all around!

15. LL - December 20, 2007

By the way, I love it that there’s a Semenhole on here talking smack! They haven’t been worth a damn since 2000. When Richt and Amato left it became clear who was really coaching the team as they haven’t been relevant since. Andrews’ defense has bailed Bobby and the rest of the staff out year after year and at least kept them with a winning record.

They play in the 2nd worst conference (next to the Big Least) and yet they can barely make it to .500 in conference play every year.

Keep holding on to those 14 straight years in the Top 5 while the rest of college football (and your own conference) fly right on by you.

16. TideDruid - December 20, 2007

@12

It should be mentioned because YOUR fanbase is campaigning for Terry Bowden, similar to Alabama fans when we did the campaign for Mike DuBose….. and we all know what happened there.

17. Taco Bell Soft Tacos - December 20, 2007

Yo Eer, AU went in 11-0 in 93, not 94. in 94 Auburn was 9-1-1. You should remember 1993, and that beat-down UF gave you.

but in case you don’t…

18. Jokers Wild - December 20, 2007

Hey Angry, will you really stop going to WVU games if Terry Bowden takes the head coaching job? If so, does that mean that you are now divorced from WVU football? Funny how these marriages go now days.

19. LL - December 20, 2007

Jokers:
I hope that if he quits going to WVU Football Games that it means he’ll also stop posting on here.

20. Jokers Wild - December 20, 2007

Now that there is so much termoil at WVU, i kind of enjoy his posts now. He is like those little kids who always thought they knew everything, only to find out the world is much bigger than they thought and they really doesn’t know shit. It is kind of entertaining.

21. Joel - December 20, 2007

AngryEer,

Here’s a thought: Did you ever stop to consider that maybe YOU are the reason for the year West Virginia has had since you started posting here??? Let me explain:

-John Beilein leaves to coach Michigan.
-WVU loses to USF on ESPN, taking the title of “Kings of ESPN”
-WVU climbs back up the rankings all the way to #2.
-WVU chokes against Pitt.
-Your beloved coach leaves for Michigan, infuriating the Mountaineer fanbase.
-You’re either gonna get Terry Bowden (snicker) or Doc Holliday, whose pic that you posted looks like a guy that just saw Chris Hanson from Dateline NBC popping up from nowhere.

This series of “unfortunate” events all began after you started posting. I’m just saying, if it smells like a rat, looks like a rat, it’s probably a Mountaineer chick…

22. AngryEer - December 20, 2007

Country Roads Motherfucker

23. artiger - December 20, 2007

@22 Is that what y’all call the main expressways in WV?

24. Joel - December 20, 2007

Like LL said, Terry Bowden already knows the “dadgum” words. Maybe he’ll sport a blue and gold tie like he did at Auburn, complete with the WV baseball hat…

25. sexualtrex - December 20, 2007

I’m with you AngryEER. This is the last guy I want to get the job. I’ll be really pissed if he’s named the coach.

Crying like a bunch of girls. Record + Experience = Best possible Hire WVU could make (or ever has in the past). Not some BARGAIN assistant or Coordinator as usual! Which WVU will likely end up with in the real world, as the $$Alumni$$ money is quickly exiting to the tune of $25 million since Rich’s departure.Good God they couldn’t pick a real head coach with a real winning record. Oh no! That would be way out of character. SINCE THE HAVE NEVER EVER HIRED AN EXPERIENCED HEAD COACH. And they have been very very lucky till now. BUT they, WE since I am an Alumni of 79.. But have lived in CA since graduation, can’t stay in the ranks of the elite by continuing to hire others assistants and becoming a farm for big time head coaches. You have to spend money to get the contributors to donate. For the first time, Rich managed to get it to happen the other way around and the Admin blew it! We are back to square one and they will never spend the money so its one of the assistants, OR a head coach with a winning record..Terry Bowden. If you think there is a chance of it being Jim Grobe or Nick Saben, you’re dreaming. Doc is the most likely assistant and he’s a recruiter, not a head coach. AS USUAL. Can’t be an elite program if the Administration won’t invest like an elite program.

LL 15 take a deep breath man you don’t have to let it all out at once, we have plenty of time to talk.

You may not have checked latetly but those pesky eers are going after Jimbo Fisher. You know the eers who called Rich Rod a traitor and liar, tore up his mailbox and threatened his brothers children.

Well now they want a coach who just said 3 days ago, “i am at FSU it is over.” He has a new contract as coach in waiting. Personally I don’t think Jimbo is stupid enough to go to West Virginia but who knows.

All I can say for Jimbo if he goes to WVU he had better win big, win fast or sneak out of town with a wig.

33. gatorhippy - December 23, 2007

Jimbo would actually be smart to get the hell out of Tally before his recruiting efforts are so sabatoged by scholarship reductions and post season bans that he can’t even get walk ons on campus at FSU…

Don’t look now but the hammer will be coming down soon, Nole…

Pounding the nail in BB’s coffin…

34. SeminoleUprising - December 26, 2007

Yeah that is the silly propaganda the gates are putting out but the NCAA has already said unofically there will be no sanctions it was self reported. Nice try though gate and it is recruiting season.

I know you would like to see that top five class blow up but forget it. Not even in your feverish dreams.

Actually some think FSU is America’s team as they actually expect their athletes to take their own tests.

http://sports.aol.com/voices/knapp/_a/seminoles-should-be-americas-team/20071221104609990001

So don’t worry the man, Fisher, who many call the greatest offensive mind in football second to Norm Chow is going nowhere. Prepare for the beatdowns which are sure to come as FSU rises from the ashes like a phoenix.

35. gatorhippy - December 26, 2007

Wow…

You really are losing it, Nole…

Please point out to me where any NCAA represenative has “officially” or “unofficially” stated there would be no sanctons against FSU because of a self reporting…

The only word I’ve seen out of the NCAA has been this little nugget; called an “official press release” …

http://tinyurl.com/2xfz73

Don’t know what you’ve been reading, but that surely doesn’t sound good at all…

Guess we’ll see in a year or so when it all shakes out…

As for Fisher…

He’s 5-9 lifetime versus the Gators as a coach…

Nobody in Hogtown is really worried about him…

36. LL - December 26, 2007

“So don’t worry the man, Fisher, who many call the greatest offensive mind in football second to Norm Chow is going nowhere.”

LMAO!

F$U sure did improve on offense this year. One would think that Jeffie was still calling the plays with all the jump balls to Greg Carr.

As for me personally, I don’t get what all the hype is about Fisher. LSU didn’t even try to retain him when F$U came calling. What does that tell you? In his last year at LSU, his offense put up 3 points against Auburn and 10 against UF. But this guy is a “great offensive mind”? Just not in the big games though, right?
