CDR and his Female Sounds
Chris Douglas Roberts is the leading scorer at over 17 ppg for a Memphis team that is loaded with pro talent and sitting at number two in the polls behind the biggest woman in the world, Tyler Hansbrough. Over the past several games he has been frustrated by a few triangle and 2 defensive schemes and a lack of overall hunger. Coach Calipari decided it was time to take matters in his own hands and start working individually with the Senior.
“For the first 30 minutes, he whined like he was exhausted,” Calipari said. “There were sounds coming out of him that I didn’t know if he were a female or a male.”
“I was doing anything to jar the kid out of what he was in,” Calipari said. “I was trying to get his motor going. That’s all it was.”
Obviously whatever pagan acts and torture Cal used on CDR worked. With a dominant defensive performance and 24 points from Douglas-Roberts the Tigers made previously undefeated Georgetown and Roy Hibbert look like little bitches.
Props to Joey Dorsey. Last time he faced a marquee big man in Greg Oden he flapped his jaw and got smoked. This time his comments were pretty simple about it being a good matchup between two big men. He let his play on the floor talk for him. He didn’t have the say that Roy Hibbert was overrated or anything like that he showed it. Holding the 7-2 big man to 6 points on 3 of 8 shooting is impressive, but also getting 11 points is impressive. Dorsey is a fucking beast.

If Memphis (State) stays healthy they are probably a final two team. Their schedule works against them because there is no test until tournament time with the exception of this Saturday (Arizona) and February 23 (Tennnessee). Anybody they play is going to have one helluva time keeping up with that bunch. They probably have the best guard in the country (Rose not CDR) and the front line is tougher and more talented than Florida’s last year. Watching Hibbert last year, he appeared to be just another tall, slow, clumsy, awkward guy.
