Urban Meyer’s Worstest Day Ever January 2, 2008

From the time the broadcast began on ABC, the Capital One Bowl was an absolute disaster for Herban Meyer and his jort-wearing Heisman-winning arm-flapping wonderboy Tim Teabow.
The Gators started by embarassing themselves in their typical lack o’ class fashion doing the whole jumping all over the logo thing that, unfortunately, other SEC teams (UGA) have also done in the past. It seems like the younger generation of coaches is, sadly, going to be ok with trash behavior like this.
That was the highlight of the day for Herban. From that point on he proceeded to make some of the most bizarre decisions I have ever seen East of Les Miles (Michigan fans you are GLAD you did not get Miles). The fake punt deep in Gator territory worked (unfortunately) but that certainly does not make it a good call. Eventually the desire to be Hal Mumme Part II will catch up with Herban and blow up in his face. No wait……it has already done that. Going for it on 4th and 6 on the Gator 25 with over 4 minutes left in the game and all three timeouts remaining? Stupid. This isn’t a video game Herban.
To me this was a great example of smart coaching vs video game generation coaching. Old school coaches may not wow you with flash, but they also don’t singlehandidly impact their teams chances in a negative way like Herban did yesterday.
Don’t get me wrong, the Gators had their asses handed to them in every possible way yesterday. Michigan had a better coach, a better team, and by far more class in every possible way.

I’m a Gator. That was an embarrassing showing by the players and coaches.
Funny you mention the video game thing.. I was watching and wondering if someone was sitting somewhere playing this match-up on NCAA ‘07 for XBox and making the play calls based on the video game.
Jumpin on the logo.. stupid, garbage, embarrassing, total lack of class..
Gators not only lost, they got beat handedly.
we were beaten handily, it’s true…..but to all of a sudden pile on urban is freaking ridiculous.

“Going for it on 4th and 6 on the Gator 25 with over 4 minutes left in the game and all three timeouts remaining? Stupid.”
Actually there was about 2 and a half minutes left in the game, but I still think we should have punted.
why?! we stopped michigan once, maybe twice, all game long….no, his logic was sound….you go for it, and if you don’t convert, you make michigan settle for the field goal, selling out on the run all three downs, and banking on a conservative coach like carr to bleed your timeouts. our only chance was to ‘have the ball last’, scoring at the end to win.
from the game i was watching, i certainly didn’t want to see michigan have 70 or so yards of open field to bleed the clock and dink and dump it to manningham…
in the end, it didn’t matter, they played better defense and executed better, thus, deserving to win. meyer’s decision to go for it spoke of desperation….and yes, we were desperate at that point….when you give up over 500 yards to someone, you get desperate. what makes anyone think we’d have stopped them from running the clock completely out…
by the way….isn’t it a sad commentary that braun and jai make 3 posts about the gators losing, to every 1 about their vols win.
see you in knoxville in september biaatches. look for me, i’ll be the one in jorts and flourescent tank top, with oakley blades and a camo belt….

Haha! I love it! The Gators lose a bowl game due to a young and inexperienced defense and all of the Tennessee Haters are piling on hoping that it’s a sign of the apocalypse for the Urban and the Good Guys. Keep hoping.
