“It’s Good to be Chris Rainey” recruiter joins the Tennessee Staff

Panhandle Gates celebrate Drayton’s departure
Stan Drayton confirmed Tuesday afternoon he is leaving Florida to take over as running backs coach at Tennessee. Drayton said he has long-term goals and one of those is to become an NFL coordinator. [GatorBait]
OK on Monday Drayton was a “must keep” , “a great recruiter” and “a great coach”. After Drayton announces for God’s Team (or renounces the Gates) it is nothing but comments of: “he sucks”, “can’t recruit”, “he can’t carry Charley Strong’s recruiting jock”. Let’s be honest Gates, coaching running backs at Florida is about as useless as a hat full of busted assholes.
The hottest rumor out of Gunsville is that some of the UF staff aren’t happy working for Herban. I heard it first about a week ago, and now someone made a lateral position move to a school that doesn’t offer much more (not talking $). It is speculated that some of the coaches on Meyer’s staff, specifically after his senior “blow out” after the bowl game, aren’t too thrilled with the prospect of working for a man like that…
It’s not like Drayton went from Vandy or Ole Miss to Tennessee. He went from Florida to Tennessee which is normally considered a lateral if not superior career move.
Here are some the players that Drayton has recruited:
Ahmad Black DB 5-11 170 4.5 11/17/2006 Lakeland, FL
John Brown DT 6-2 285 1/26/2007 Lakeland, FL
Torrey Davis DT 6-5 290 1/19/2007 Seffner, FL
Cameron Newton QB 6-4 232 4.51 11/10/2006 Atlanta, GA
Maurkice Pouncey OL 6-4 287 11/17/2006 Lakeland, FL
Michael Pouncey OL 6-4 280 11/17/2006 Lakeland, FL
Chris Rainey RB 5-9 159 4.42 1/19/2007 Lakeland, FL
Steve Wilks DB 6-2 195 1/19/2007 Lakeland, FL
Paul Wilson WR 6-1 175 4.45 11/17/2006 Lakeland, FL
Riley Cooper ATH 6-4 208 4.37 9/16/2005 Clearwater, FL
Jermaine Cunningham DE 6-3 196 4.65 12/9/2005 Stone Mountain, GA
Jarred Fayson ATH 6-0 184 4.32 1/20/2006 Tampa, FL
Drayton is a respectable postion coach, but the list you see above is some of the talent he brought to the Gates. That is why the Great Battle Captain hired him.
Look for Doc Holliday to be the next inmate to escape from Herban’s clutches.

If Urban is so hard to work for, one wonders why all those coaches have stuck with him from his BG and Utah days.
Guys, I understand this is a Vol(shiemers) blog. But at least try and inject a little reason and logic into the conversation.
Who is Urban?
There is an Herban at Florida
The truth is that Drayton is now considered dead weight. Meyer was tired of covering up his fuckups. @1, he has changed coaches quite often, certainly not like Saban had been forced to do.
coaching running backs at Florida is about as useless as a hat full of busted assholes.
Funny shit
Strong is the recruiter of record on all of those kids listed. Drayton is dead to the Gator Nation.
1) Drayton was told that he would not be retained after the bowl game. It is not like this was soley his decision. He CAN recruit (obviously) and he DOES NOT suck, but UF has no choice but try a different avenue at the RB coaching position after 3 years of miserable performance at that position. The fault for this lack of a “true” running threat can be spread amongst Urban, Mullen, Drayton, and the sub-par effort of our RBs over the last 3 years.
Hopefully Moody and Rainey can turn things around, we will see this spring.
2) Your “hottest rumor out of Gunsville” is a load of crap and pure speculation. You have no credible sources to back it up.
3) You can’t blame Holliday for wanting to return to his Alma Mater.
@6 I agree with most of your comments. But the retention part is in the same category as Holliday heading back to mobile meth labs….specualtion.
I have read various theories on why drayton is leaving…some real and some goofy. As goofy as: Herban is an atheist and Drayton wishes to serve Jesus without fear of persecution
I heard that atheist rumor too. That Meyer has banned the FCA on campus. Has he lost his mind? You can’t ban the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, can you???
You get a pipeline to Lakeland’s dominant program, but we’ve already started working on Armwood, so it’s cool.
I am friends with several Florida alumni who are close to the program and they love Drayton and so do the players ; huge lose for Florida esp to a rival like UT .
He would never have been a vital cog b/c Florida uses its RB’s so rarely but they were hoping that when he left it would be to a team out of conference not UT
Holy crap. Meyer is insane. I had no idea that he hated Jesus. Frankly, I am not the least bit surprised with this shocking nugget.
I don’t think that he has the power to block freedom of religion. But who really expected the gator nation to embrace homosexuality as being “OKAY”?
I knew you fuckers were evil. I knew it all along.
Can Pastor Tebow convert Urbie?
Drayton is OK but Cutcliffe to Mike DeBord, Fatso can’t be serious.
Wouldn’t Cutcliffe going from OC at Tenn. to Head Coach at Duke also be considered a “lateral move” if not a step down?
OmegaNole??? Hmm…interesting name…mean anything significant???
Jai,
Drayton is a fine recruiter and UT should be happy. However, any sentence that starts with “word out of Gunsville” should be treated as it appears-complete and utter bullshit. Also, I am stunned by OmegaNole’s post. I was unaware that Criminoles were capable of reading, let alone using a computer (except to cheat on tests). Kudos to you, Omega Nole. You are a credit to mouth breathing mongoloids everywhere.
Jim
I am not Jai. I just want to say thanks ot Herban Meyer for running off his coaches. Welcome home Doc Holliday….country fucking roads
I hear Charley Strong is the next rat to abandon the Florida sinking ship
Eer,
If the Florida ship is sinking, the BCS will be played in Atlantis.
There are many clowns on the net these days futilely attempting to emulate my biting wit. Pay no attention to them.
There is no controversy concerning why the coaches are jumping ship at UF like rats in a hurricane. They are fed up with used car lot atmosphere.
It was easy for Drayton, he had no running plays, no running backs and a pinhead for a head coach.

” Drayton recalled. “I said, ‘Yeah, coach. It’s Tennessee.’ He said, ‘That’s our rival now. That makes things a little confusing here, a little tough.’ ”
Drayton said cooler heads prevailed when the big picture was discussed.”
This translates into Drayton was about ready to clean his clock.
