The BCS National Championship win by LSU over perennial cupcake Ohio State proves yet again that the Southeastern Conference is far superior to any other conference when it comes to football.
10 teams out of 12 bowl-eligible, 9 get bids, 7 wins. Thanks Florida for losing to your Big 10 Cupcake.
Sorry Big 12, your conference is overrated. In my mind the Big 12 has two solid programs right now: Oklahoma and Texas. The bottom of the Big 12 is painful.
The Big Ten had another down year with Michigan losing its first 2 games and no other school really dominating other than Ohio State, solidifying themselves as the SEC’s bitch again.
The Pac-10 has USC and Oregon when healthy. I’m not sold on Arizona State and Cal went down the toilet rapidly.
The Big East had another adequate showing, with 5 teams pulling at least 8 wins (WVU, Cincy, USF, Conn, & RU) and 3-2 in bowl play (granted the bowls other than the Fiesta were nothing to shout about, and USF got annihilated by a Dixon-less Oregon). Look for the Big East winner to lose at least 2 games next season. I’m not sold on Connecticut.
The ACC in my mind is next to the Big 10 is a very weak BCS conference. This especially after losing the Orange Bowl. I’m not sold on Clemson or Wake Forest.
And Notre Dame still stinks. I say anything but a winning season next year for the Irish and Weis is gone.
Look for continued SEC domination in 2008-09 with Georgia, Florida, LSU dominating. The Big Ten may never recover, especially since we have yet to see Michigan under Rich Rodriguez. T
he Big 12 will be similar to last year, maybe a little bit better especially the Big 12 South – Oklahoma and Texas will have seasoned and powerful QBs. The Pac-10 will see USC dominate again, with Oregon keeping things interesting.
The Big East is a toss-up. Rodriguez left West Virginia (but still in all likelihood have Pat White), which makes the conference race wide open – Louisville is losing Brohm and Rutgers will likely lose Rice. Cincinnati could be dangerous, and I think they can pull another 10-win season, but West Virginia still looks like the front-runner.
The ACC is such an enigma, that you could pick anyone (other than maybe Duke or UNC) to win the ACC and it wouldn’t be a horrible choice or a big surprise if they do.
I don’t see any BCS busting next year – Brennan is gone from Hawaii (along with June Jones).
Early 2008-2009 picks:
NAT CH: USC/LSU
FIESTA: OU/CIN
ORANGE: BC/TEX
SUGAR: WVU/UGA
ROSE: OREG/OSU
I would pick 3 SEC teams if I could, but the BCS does not allow more than 2 from a single conference. SEC domination is probably one of the reasons that the Big 10 and the PAC 10 don’t want a playoff is that the SEC would get a majority of the playoff berths.

I’ll say this for the Big East…at least they’re in favor of a playoff, even though they stand to have no more than one representative.
Before AngryEer says somthing I think this post is pretty generous to the Big East, 2 BCS bowl teams? I guess they have to come from somewhere, I doubt there will be two from the Big East though.
“Look for continued SEC domination in 2008-09 with Georgia, Florida, LSU dominating”…
How can you not put the Vols in there…
Especially with Foster coming back…
Foster = Fumble
Fumble = Foster
it is clear to me that the BE is clearly the most dominant conference in football. Toot LSU’s horn all you wish. I promise that the dumb-ass known as Les Miles wants no part of Pat White and the buzzsaw aka WVU
Les Miles has more BCS championships than your so-called buzzsaw. Like I told you, call when you get even one. Until then, you’re still just a wannabe.
Wants no part of Pat White and WVU? Really, you asked him, and he said that? You really get around. Oh, that’s in your imaginary world, the one you spend most of the day in.
and when you spoke to him, he said that he did want a piece? I promise you that Stoops and Richt don’t want anymore
I’ll bet Pitt doesn’t want anymore, either.
Can you say Kentucky?
Can you say paper shredder???
Kentucky went to, and won a bowl game. Pitt probably watched quite a few bowl games.
now you are acting like an alabama fan
AngryEer, you better get a hard copy of your transcripts before Rodriguez destroys the master…
And you are acting like…a West Vagina fan!

Eer, if the BE is “clearly the most dominant conference” then why hasn’t any team from that conferenc emade an appearance in the only post seaon contest that truly matters?
hippy, are you high? I can’t cipher
Maybe a little drunk, Jai…
My pops came by for a visit which resulted in a visit to the saloon…
To clear it up…
Eer claims that the BE is more dominant than the SEC…
I’m merely pointing out that the BE “dominance” hasn’t placed a a BE affiliate in the BCS CG since the University of Coral Gables got jobbed by tOSU…
Hence if they were more “dominant” then surely they would have a LEAST had an appearance in the “only post season contest that truly matters” since then…
Get it?
BTW – the hams on that chick above are decidedly championship quality…
Even without a playoff…
LSU v USC in the Title Game, eh?
I like. We will see if this year’s underclassmen can step up. Last years team had plenty of senior leadership–Flynn, Hester, Doucet, Dorsey, Highsmith, Jackson and Steltz.
we’ll see if Perilloux can keep his nose clean and stay off the boats. i see Miles platooning RP again–this time with Jarett Lee, who supposedly has a big arm. RP should be the guy, though. The RBs should be solid, though we will miss Hester. Scott may need to develop in to the “blue collar” guy (god i hate that term). WRs should be okay with the continued development of T. Tolliver and LaFell, assuming he has his dropsies under control. C. Tolliver should be a stud. OL returns everyone except Will Arnold, who was a non-factor last year, and Carnell Stewart, who was prolly the weakest link.
on the D side, with Jackson returning, Dline should be good, though we will of course miss Dorsey. Assuming Ricky Jean keeps his grades up and Alexander bounces back from his knee injury, we should have plenty depth. having Pittman back for a 6th yr would be nice. The LBs are a question, but should be solid with Beckwith returning also, if Clemmons is switched to LB, the speed will be there. the DBs–safties should be solid. Taylor returns and Chad Jones is quciker and more athletic than Steltz–lets see if he can make plays. CBs will be the issue. Eugene has not shown me that he is anything more than a situational player and i know nothing about chris hawkins. hopefully some of the redshirt guys (Francois, et al) and the incoming freshmen can play.
just my $0.02.
thing is that if UGA can continue playing like they did last year, they will be tough–though they have to play in Baton Rouge which should be a hell of a game.

Mark my word..
People are saying the UGA/UF game is gonna be big this year..
I have my eye on UGA/LSU.
It’ll be a good year.. If Caleb King steps up like he has showed, and Moreno is on key again.. The QB/RB combo UGA has is going to be disgustingly rude to opponents.
The OL is all back but the C… The defense is young, and I think they are returned over 90% starters.. Hell, we had starting FRESHMEN LB’s, like Curran.
Oh and EEr.. I’ll help you find a new blog to trash up next year when it’s painfully even more embarassing to show back up here when the eers finally go back into their hole in the middle of hell.
Dawg, I doubt he’s going away. If the Pitt loss didn’t get rid of him, nothing will.
Cal, the team that “went down the toilet rapidly” beat the SEC East champs last season, so kindly stfu.
Cal To Do List:
*Get hippies out of trees.
*Hire new basketball coach.
*Attempt to get out of Pac-10 mediocrity.
*Start coach list for when Tedford gets a real coaching job.
*Get throat lozenges for Michele Tafoya.
*Hide the weed.
