The Tide is Cheating With Reckless Abandon Yet Again

Nothing else could explain Alabama’s solid recruiting efforts. Nobody wants to move there and everybody wants to leave there. It is like a landfill. Nobody wants Alabama in their backyard.

You’re absolutely right. In fact, there is a good chance that you are the smartest son-of-a-gun walking God’s Green Earth. Thank you for gracing us with your wisdom and knowledge. Reading your insights has probably, no, it has absolutely made me a more intelligent person.

    well, it is a perception

And we’re supposed to be surprised by this?

  4. 2008 February 6

Well, here’s some perception for you, Jai.

41-17 against the worst Tide team you will play for the next 5 years (at least).

    # 1 class, and Saban was already holding Junior day this past weekend to go after that bunch. And he already has a commitment from a top 100 in that class.

I bet a lot of people would perceive that as an indication of things to come.

  5. 2008 February 6

Saban won’t be there. You seem like a smart guy. Does history repeat itself? If so, then you better hope that the next Bama coach can do something with the talent.

But the perception is that Bama buys what it needs. Actually, it is not a perception, it is a reality. Maybe not this year, or maybe so

  6. 2008 February 6

or: Knowing Bama’s recent history, they’ll be on probation within the next year or two. Hell, how do you think they signed this year’s # 1 class. Also, they’ll probably have a new head coach in the next year or two. Saban is a carpetbagger or snakeoil salesman from way back. He’ll find a “better job” somewhere in college or the pros. He is the Larry Brown of football coaches.

  7. 2008 February 6

OK, a few things. 1st, you cannot provide any proof to Bama cheating being the reason for #1 today. I can, however. It has been heavily documented that Saban loves recruiting and works 16 hours a day on this stuff. He’s had great recruiting at every stop in his career. Why would he have to cheat when he gets to Bama but not at lesser programs?

Also, I don’t see why you think Saban is going to leave. Where would he go? Not the NFL, and Bama is about as high in prestige as it gets (you cannot deny that, Alabama is still one of the top jobs and programs in the country) in college. And he’s pulling in the best class he’s ever recruited in his career at Bama.

Well, even if Saban leaves, wouldn’t you say that Bama would be quite an attractive job by that time? I mean, we’re going to have talent as long as Saban’s going to be there, and wouldn’t any big time coach jump at the chance to coach at an upper-tier program loaded with talent?

  8. 2008 February 6

Bama’s class is misleading. Strength in numbers, basically. What do you expect when you sign over 30 recruits?

And great, Bama got Julio Jones. He really had no choice but to go to Bama. He’s a good kid and knew that if he went elsewhere that some looney-toon in a houndstooth hat with a mullet would have burned his Momma’s house to the ground and some drunk Bama fan would’ve gotten drunk and shot his teenage son tonight. Jones couldn’t have that on his conscious. C’mon, Man.

This day brings to mind another Bear “The Holy One” Myth: A quote attributed to Saint Bryant about recruiting was actually said by Marengo County Judge Bentley Lamar, when he admonished Pig Foot Deli Owner, Buford Stubblefield of Flatwood, in a food poisoning lawsuit, that “you can’t make chicken salad out of chicken shit.”

@7 For God’s sake man please don’t tell me that you are so naive as to believe that $aban does not ferret out every edge that he can to convince a good one to come to Alabama. Whether it’s cash to the parents or to the young man, or promises of summer jobs where you don’t have to work but still get paid, or loaner cars from high roller car dealer alumni, your guy knows all the angles. He knows every trick, every nuance, can quote the NCAA rules and regs backwards and it would take Sherlock Holmes to catch him. But will all of that subterfuge stop that final craw sticker, WAR EAGLE. The Tubites have trashed Alabama (I don’t need to remind you) six (6) straight times. I don’t care if $aban recruits the starting lineup of the New York Giants (Organ crescendo), if he can’t beat Auburn you can ki$$ hi$ rich a$$ bye bye.

  11. 2008 February 6

Sad State- Saban had great recruiting at every stop in his career? Okay, I’ll ask the Dolphins about that.

Where would Saban go? Think about it, Tuscaloosa really isn’t that attractive of a town and the expectations placed upon UAT coaches is unrealistic since Bear and Logan Young are no longer in the fold.

UAT hasn’t been a prestigious job in years. One 7-6 season by Saban doesn’t change the fact that Spurrier (who won more than a half a NC) and Rich Rod shafted the UAT offers. If UAT was such a prestigious job then why could they only land Mike, Mike, and Mike after Stallings quit? Why did Franchonie say fuck it at the Crapstone? Doesn’t sound like that Bammer prestige has appealed to anyone of importance besides the whore known as Saban.

Saban pulling the best class he ever has while at UAT… I hope so. This is the first year he has had a full season to recruit for the Bammers.

Has the “success” of Saban made Michigan St, Toledo, or the Dolphins attractive jobs to any established coaches? You don’t have to answer that for everyone to know the answer.

I had lunch today with an Aub and without me saying a word about it, he brings up the fact that out of 8 recruits Auburn went head to head with Alabama this year, Alabama got 7. He was scared of things to come (his admission, not my speculation) because he sees the writing on the wall. And you are right, Saban may be gone in the near future. But he is here right now and he is building something. You can scream to the rafters about it and call shenanigans all you want but until he leaves or Alabama is actually in trouble for something (again) it is just talk. Face it, all of you haters are scared that Alabama might be building up a good program again. Enjoy your laughs now, continue to kick something that is down, and tell us not to live in the past and then spout off about 6 in a row, and who all our bad coaches were, and bring up Logan Young. I think you are just covering up fear of what might, I repeat might be. No matter what happens your going to take your shots. If Alabama loses it’s because they suck and if they beat you it’s because they cheat. But keep it coming, on days like today it’s just funny. I always heard that you win will class and lose with pride.
H-back- you seem like a smart guy. They don’t recruit in the NFL so they probably aren’t discussing it one way or the other. Just saying.

Here’s a flash for you $abanites. Nutt took two off of Tubs, Enrique Davis 5 Star RB 5-11 220 and Andrew Harris 4 Star 6-4 195 WR. Both had committed to Auburn but changed their minds and signed with Ole Miss. Things are looking up for the Tide’s never ending quest to finally end their frustration against the WE.

    11 –

Fucking LSU looks pretty good right now. God, you hate Bama so bad you can never, ever admit when the program does good b/c of hard work. It has to be some sort of cheat, right?

Oh, and see who always seems to get that CBS or ESPN game. Bama’s still a big deal, even during the worst times since the 50’s.

And of course no one wanted to jump at a probation riddled school. But a school like Bama with Saban recruits. Show me the coach that wouldn’t take that.

  15. 2008 February 6

Oh, and Auburn had a string against Bama in the 50’s as well. Which coincidentally was the last down period for Bama. You know what happened once Bama got the right coach and players, and you know it’s going to happen again.

By the way, what did 6 get you on a national scale? Any national championships? No? Well, any SEC championships? One? Wow, that’s as many as we have in the last 10 years, and this was Bama’s down cycle. Can’t wait to see the next few years. Lots of reality checks for some fans.

  16. 2008 February 6

“(you cannot deny that, Alabama is still one of the top jobs and programs in the country)”
Thats why you had to double the top salary in college football history to get a decent coach?

  17. 2008 February 6

Why do you think everyone is an Auburn fan Sad Sad man?

Alabama went 6-6 for the last two years, that’s why it’s hard (and not hard) to believe they are pulling a class like this. I buy the playing time argument coupled with the fact that Saban is a great recruiter.

Here’s what I wrote in a recent article at my blog regarding Saban.

At present, depending on which recruiting service you prefer to believe, the University of Alabama is on the cusp of signing the best recruiting class in the nation.

Upon being recognized as the recruiting national champion, head coach Nick Saban will hold a press conference tomorrow afternoon, allowing the hundreds in attendance to pay him homage.

Nick the Great will proclaim the accomplishment as being the single most significant event since the university was stupid enough to pay him $4 million dollars annually to coach the football team. Saban will then walk away from the podium, find the nearest mirror, and gaze lovingly upon himself in admiration.

    Need anything else be said?

  20. 2008 February 6

@12- Rollin, I didn’t think that I would have to spell out to anyone that I was referring to Saban’s draft picks/ free agent signings with the Phins.

@14- Sad State, yes, LSU is sitting pretty right now. That’s one out of the last four teams Saban has touched. With a 25% success rate, the smart money would be on Saban NOT leaving UAT in a better condition compared to when he arrived. And I know one coach that wouldn’t go to T-town, and that guy is in Auburn right now.

Maybe Saban can recruit Andrew Zow’s little brother or cousin or something to bring that Zow-magic back to T-town. After all, he is the last Bammer QB to beat the Barn.

Tubs will kick Bama’s ass with whatever renegades he can round up every year because he has the magic. $aban’s #1 class at Alabama is going to love playing in Shreveport.
