Pray, it’s 3rd and 19

Many Vols fans exhaled with both relief and anger yesterday after Defensive Coordinator John “Chief” Chavis interviewed and then turned down a linebackers coaching position with the Atlanta Falcons. The interview rumor began a chain reaction of other internet message board rumors of his possible replacement.

Among the names mentioned were Bama’s Kevin Steele, who apparently is a stud recruiter (Did he really recruit Tebow for Florida while he was at FSU?) and is smothered under Saban’s dwarfish thumb. There was a Jon Gruden sighting. Gruden who is always mentioned for every vacancy, was spotted house hunting in Knoxville

Notice that the Gator fan seems happy about Chief’s decision to remain with Good Guys. And why not? The Gates hung 59 on us. Or Shreveport’s Team hung 41 on us too. But the Chief rallied the troops and got us back to the SEC CG. Now if we could only find some Defensive Tackles for the next 3 or 4 years. GBO

Here is a bit of relevant data on Chavis’ defensive squads:
Year Points Allowed (Source NCAA)
1995 19.0
1996 15.4
1997 22.0
1998 14.5
1999 16.1
2000 20.6
2001 19.3
2002 17.4
2003 18.4
2004 22.6
2005 18.6
2006 19.5
2007 27.2

In my opinion, the 98 and 99 team is the only team that could hang with the New England Patriots. We can’t beat the Patriots, but could probably beat three quarters of the NFL teams. I am sure that that fact weighed heavily on the Chief’s mind.

Thanks for staying Chief!! GBO!!

The 96 team was better than 98, you inbred sonofabitch. If you had any fucking brains whatsoever, you’d know that you tiny peckered phag.
