Nick Saban has” a come to Bear err…Jesus Talk” with T-Town Mayor Walt Maddox [link].
I could go on and on about how good Saban is for the future of Tuscaloosa. He’s also a reasonable man and a true professional. I’m sure Saban and Walt will came to a mutual understanding about what’s best for the City of Tuscaloosa and the Tide’s football program. After all, their futures are intertwined in so many and diverse ways.
As one Bama official said “Saban recognizes that kids today may have moved on from DUIs and are now trying marijuana and playing with guns. Alabama has to keep up with the times and give these guys the same chances that countless other Bama players have had in the past.
Additionally, Coach Saban is keenly aware that his kids have an inalienable right to drink to excess at 3 AM and raise hell as they see fit. What compounds the problem is that the Tuscaloosa PD is full of Auburn Trolls who just do not “get it”. Coach Saban believes that a better quality of law enforcement officers are needed, like the officers who assisted him when the tree hit his car after the Christmas Party.”

Take D. J. Hall for example. Everyone knows our players are not that smart, and to deny them playing time is to deny them their future. DJ Hall, lost at least $700 a game (it ended up being a half cause we were losing to ULM) this year and last while being suspended.
These kids will have to work extra hard to get the boosters to notice them again. They have got babies to feed, Walt. That’s a freaking crying shame.

You can crack down all you want but the fact remains that stupid kids are going to do stupid things. When you recruit a bunch of kids that couldn’t tell time much less pass an algebra class, you can’t act like all of this comes as a surprise.

I wouldn’t presume to speak for Moon Dog, so he can correct me, but I think he is speaking in generalities. He has posts on his site that lead me to believe he is concerned with the behavior overall. It’s funny when it happens to your rival, not so much when it happens to your team. He may poke fun but he is reasonable. (I can’t believe I just spoke out for a fan of the Big Orange) Phil Fulmer wears velcro shoes because he isn’t smart enough to tie them. There I feel better now.

I hope the NCAA starts suspending programs that can’t keep their gangbanger players out of jail.

#4 – That’s exactly what I’m talking about. I love football and I love the Vols. I love our conference, the greatest in the nation. But winning at all costs by giving scholarships to kids that can’t compete academically and are going to be an embarrassment to your team isn’t getting it done. I point the finger at the Vols just as much as I would any other team that recruits players knowing they’re going to be a problem.
Oh and that crack about Fulmer….Saban’s hair stylist is a guy named Christian who wears pink slippers to work and meets Nick the Great for “private” sessions every Tuesday afternoon.

I agree with you about the (mis)conduct of football players in general as well. No, I am not happy, nor will I defend, the actions of Jeremy Elder. However, I do get pissed about 2 things.
1, Jai posting stuff about Julio Jones, senior in high school Julio Jones, and saying that he’s going to be in jail just b/c he happened to witness a terrible thing.
2, the hypocritical way people have bashed Bama for the players being arrested. Again, not at all for the Elder incident, but stuff like the Rashad Johnson incident. It has come out that the police report differs from the video evidence from 4 camera angles and they want to drop the charges. We’ve been saying all along that these were trumped up charges, and it makes you think back to the Castille and Deadrick, Upchurch and Fanney incidents from this summer. Anyway what I’m saying is the RJ thing was BS, he’s a good person and was brought in on BS charges, yet he and the Bama program are villified, yet UT has already had the Colquit incident, the guys with weed and a recruit incident, Lemarcus Coker, etc. – far worse (not to mention actual and not made up) offenses.
Hell yes Sad State! We have to let these ‘Villes know the truth! This + This = BAMA’S BACK!
