Adios Javy Lopez

Sweet ass gold chain.
All of the years of catching caught up with him. I remember him hitting a grand slam in a game versus the Expos that I attended in San Juan. [AJC]
He would have been the backup catcher to Brian McCann anyway. In spite of past injuries, age, and the fact that he hit .182 this spring, the only reason I could see keeping him would be clinging to what he did for the Braves in his prime and not letting go of the past instead of moving forward.
I’m more worried about how Smoltz, Glavine, and the always fragile Glassman Mike Hampton are going to hold up throughout the season. On yesterday’s game against the Astros, Smoltz discussed his sore shoulder as he broke down the mechanics of Hampton’s delivery (ouch! a kneecap waiting to separate).

Isn’t Smoltz like 87 by now?

Smoltz and Glavine will be fine, those doodz will be playing 18 holes 3 out of the 4 days they aren’t pitching.
Hampton on the other hand…. Let’s just say “I’m Chuck James, Bitch!” better not unpack his shit in Richmond.
I remember Javy Lopez, David Justice, and Ryan Klesko all breaking in at the same time with the Braves. They were young, talented, and represented the future of the franchise…
Out of the three, I would not have guessed Ryan F’n Klesko would still be in the majors…
@4…i thought it was klesko, javy, and chipper?!
but, anyway, i get your point….
Those Braves teams in the 90’s and even into this decade were something special. Just doesn’t appear to be the same anymore. They have some talent but not enough to compete with the Phils or Mets.
