You laughed. You made fun of me. I was even called, “the only hawks fan left on the planet” and now the Atlanta Hawks have forced the most unlikely game 7 in any playoff of any sport ever played. About as unlikely as UGA winning the SEC basketball title. GATA. And if you ask, “is it difficult to pull for a Billy Donovan coached Gator?”, the answer is, yes. Time will wear that off, maybe, but it is tough right now.
Atlanta and Metro Atlanta love basketball, but we haven’t had anything to get pumped about in a very, very long time. Things have been pretty bleak since ‘Nique was traded and the hawks organization has been rightfully cursed ever since. Sure, it took the Hawks making the playoffs for Atlanta fans to pumped, but that would apply in any city whose basketball organization has put as little effort into their jobs the past decade.
Phillips Arena has been rocking in the playoffs too. The Omni was like that during the seasons and playoffs back in the late 1980′s when ‘Nique and the Hawks were battling Bird and the Celtics and the Pistons. The media loves, loves, loves to blanket Atlanta sports fans. At this point, it’s just lazy journalism. Every sports town whose best franchise is average as grits has poor attendance. They said the Boston fans would out number the Hawks fans in Phillips for the playoffs. That’s funny, because if they are, they’re cheering for the wrong team. Sure, the Hawks may lose in Boston, but this city is actually excited about Hawks basketball. If the Hawks win game 7, this city will be as high as it was during the Braves run in 1991-92. Either way, it’s fun while it lasts.
Agreed. I was a Hawks fan as a kid, but I quit cheering for them when they traded Dominique, who was my favorite player. Great to see them doing well again, and hope they take over Boston in Game 7! Go Hawks!
‘Nique was traded for Manning during a playoff run season. He went on to the Clippers and played much better than Manning did in Atlanta.
That was one of the saddest days of my life when ‘Nique was traded. I still hate that he didn’t retire an Atlanta Hawk. Here in Atlanta, we’ve done pretty well releasing Hall of Fame talent. That Favre guy didn’t turn out to be so bad.

Moron, UGA didn’t win an SEC basketball title. They won a 4 day tournament. Impressive, no doubt, but they aren’t SEC Champions.
