This is by far the best analyzation of the Big East I’ve seen in a long while. I about lost my mind when I thought that Pitt was rated above my EERs. Then I quickly recovered after I realized that it an alphabetical listing.
West Virginia: With quarterback Pat White and tailback Noel Devine returning, coach Bill Stewart could have a national championship contender in his first full season. Stewart is really excited about his team’s linebackers.
Pittsburgh: The Panthers are a serious dark horse to win the Big East and compete for a spot in a BCS bowl game. Pitt fans have waited patiently for coach Dave Wannstedt to turn his talented recruits into winners, and this might be the year.

As we’ve seen over and over, it doesn’t really matter what “experts” think. Historically, the less respect we’ve gotten from the press, the better our team has been. The only advantage to being rated in the top 10 preseason is that it makes it easier to get to the top of the ratings.

For WVU the advantages of being rated in the top 10 preseason are:
1. When you eventually lose you won’t fall that far so you get your token Bowl invite that validates another failed season.
2. You don’t have to earn your ranking.
3. If forces WVU fan to do something it normally wouldn’t do: read.

The advantage of being ranked in the preseason top 10 is so we can hear how overrated WVU and the Big Least are then you lose to a sub .500 Pitt team or a Louisville team fighting to play in the “I don’t give a shit dot com” bowl. Then they’ll quit talking about you pogues and start pumping up Ohio St. to prepare them for their annual beatdown by the SEC.
