LSU receiver picked as SEC’s biggest sleeper
ESPN.com blogger Chris Low posted his list of the top 10 most underrated players in the SEC poised to have a big year in 2008 and LSU wide receiver Demetrius Byrd topped that list.
As Low points out Byrd got off to a slow start in his first SEC season out of junior college but became a legitimate big play stretch down the stretch. If LSU has any fantasies about contending for the SEC West title, let alone an outright conference title, Byrd will need to evolve into a more consistent playmaker as the Bayou Bengals go into the season with questions at quarterback.
Also making the list was Kentucky corner Trevard Lindley, Alabama center Antoine Caldwell and Tennessee wide receiver Lucas Taylor.
Georgia fullback Brannan Southerland rounded out the top 10, which I think is a little silly. Fullbacks are always going to be an underrated and overlooked part of any team given their responsibilities as lead blockers and in pass protection and don’t give me the LSU Jacob Hester argument, he was the Tigers’ sole feature back last year.
