As a Braves fan, there will never be another call like that one in my life time. I was in high school at the time and will never forget watching that live.
I’ve been lucky to have heard my sports voices for my favorite teams for as long as I can remember- UGA- Munson; Braves: Caray and Pete Van Weiren. Munson doesn’t have many days left, but he’s had some good calls too.
The Braves broadcast booth will never be better than it was with Ernie Johnson, Sr., Skip Caray, and Pete Van Wieren all together. All old school radio guys who really know/knew how to “paint the picture” with their voice.
Skip was awesome.
Now the Braves have a cookie-cut booth with generic suits. Freakin’ Clear Channel.
I was flying an RC-12 airplane back from Arizona, over the west side of El Paso with the game tuned up on the ADF radio. I was ansty, so I flipped the toggle switch down on the ics box and made the other guy listen. when he went apeshit, i knew all was well in HotLanta
The RC-12. One of the few airplanes in the Army inventory. You say words I know, Jai. I was an avionics tech in the USAF and am an engineer in aviation right now.
I listened to UGA beat UF in 1997 over the ADF on a C-141. Good times.
What was it like when John Ward stepped down?
I remember my dad and I jumping up and down and yelling so much that my mom ran in the living room and thought my dad was beating me after Sid being called safe.
The Slide is one of the best moments of my life. Damn MLB.com for not allowing the full video with Skip calling the play on youtube
