The UCLA Debacle

Tennessee, were we really flying under the radar? Or did the pundits really get “it”? Thanks for making Lou Holtz look like a damn genius.

Last night was utterly and totally embarrassing. Tennessee allowed itself to be beaten by an inferior opponent who had a greater desire to win, Again. [Report Card ]. We were flat out coached. UCLA had a plan for victory. Tennessee didn’t. Shreveport if we are lucky. This Tennessee team reminded me of the early John Majors-era teams. Does anyone recall that Tennessee once went from 1975 to 1985 without ever making the top ten once — ten years.

After the SEC CG and the Outback Bowl win, I dared to hope. Perhaps I even drank the Kool Aid on the new offense and the improved Defense. Gerald Williams and Brandon Warren? Where were you? I suppose that I should have known better.[ Craigs list]

Tennessee once again has let an inferior PAC team 10 beat them and subsequently embarrass the rest of the SEC.  Note to Fulmer: Stop playing the PAC 10!! The Vols clearly had this game won and had chance after chance to close the deal yet let UCLA creep back into the game time and time again. UCLA threw 4 picks in the first half for petes sake……and we still found a way to lose!! I still believe that the SEC is the best conference in college football but I would have a difficult time in selling my beloved Vols after the way that they played tonight. Tennessee could not even beat Ohio State with that offense. If UGA, LSU or Florida had played this goofy UCLA team tonight, the results would have been different. Anyone of those teams would have applied the gas early and often.

Hopefully UGA will not continue to embarrass the SEC when they travel west to play Arizona State in three weeks. If Florida and Georgia were watching that “offense” do you believe that they are drooling with anticipation? I think that they are.

Shit-fire I think UAB, NIU, Auburn, South Carolina, Alabama, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky have to be licking their chops as well.

I really don’t know how you can blame Chavis, the offense blew so many opportunities it was only a matter of time before something went against the defense. Dave Clawson looked and acted like a first year high school coordinator. How many times did we get six or seven yards on first down only to throw deep on second down and then fail to convert third down? You simply cannot dismiss it by saying he’s “feeling his way through it.”  He was given the keys to an veteran and productive offense that basically returned every playmaker (except for Ainge) from the previous year that produced 30+ points per game.

I could use the coach speak that we all hear about it being a team loss, it’s fixable, or work like heck.. but the bottom line is that the offensive side of the ball sucks. Calling 41 pass plays, not picking up blitzes, abandoning a successful power running game, not make route adjustments to blitzes, and players adding to it by not making the plays the offense let the whole team down.

Surprise!! Yep Arian Foster fumbled for no apparent reason and Crompton did not live up to his billing. In case anyone is keeping score (no pun intended) that was Goal line fumble # 5 and counting for Foster. At some point the coaching staff might want to consider taking Foster out of the game around the goal line.

Speaking of Crompton. After three years of  hype by the Cromptonites, I was not impressed at all with his arm, decision making, or his scrambling ability. Time and time again, you Cromptonites called Erik Ainge a sissy, the king of the 3 yard pass and that he was not tough enough. A couple of 3 yard COMPLETIONS to the Receivers would have been wonderful.  And those “wheels” ?   Where were they?

Well guess what, fuckers? I told you so. I fucking told you so.   Here is the truth: Erik Ainge would not have lost that game last night.  At least I understand why Brent Hubbs banned our ass. He knew that we were pro-Ainge and would not take any shit off the Cromptonites. I suspect that Hubbs knew that Crompton has sucked for a really long time and had to get rid of us to keep peace on The Generals Quarters.

The Battle Captain is still 8 wins away from an extension.

Abysmal performance against a low tier PAC 10 team. Crompton showed zero. Fulmer was in a coma, Clawson had three plays and Chavis’ defense collapsed with less than two minutes to play. That showing was on a par with Mississippi State’s at Louisiana Tech.

Plenty of blame to go around for this loss. I’ve been watching JC for years, and this is no surprise. Crompton isn’t new to the system…he’s a veteran. The writing was on the wall folks, the kid just hasn’t had what it takes to be a starter in the SEC. If he had it, he would have played a LOOOONG time ago.

Anyone wonder now why we recruited 2 QB’s during the off season????
