More on TBC: Student reactions. Campus full of Tardicus Rex
The mood on campus today, so far as I have seen, is remarkable. I think that everyone is pleased that the change is being made, and also quite relieved that Coach Fulmer is handling the affair in a manner fitting for such a renowned and dignified lifetime Volunteer.
Having lived on or on the borders of campus for five falls, I must say that the mood this afternoon rivals that of the 2005 victory over LSU. I was in my apartment walking to class as ESPN broke the news, and people were literally filing into the parking lot of the Commons to celebrate. My next two classes were roundly and routinely been interrupted by cheering as news of the announcement spread, and the random shouts of “Go Vols!” when walking about the Hill has been like something out of that terribly annoying U of Florida Commercial. It really is lovely to see Rocky Top so thriving with football energy after such a long drought of joy this season.” -berk2005
First of all, I’m surprised that the hippies that stomp around the Hill these days are even are aware that a change has been made. Typically they pick up their news from The Daily Beacon, a media outlet about as current as Raycom Sports scores.
I graduated from Tennessee last May, and this is the first time I have been truly excited that I am no longer a student. There is no chance in hell I would leave my apartment in Knoxville to hear the most fickle students in the fucking country REJOICE as Coach Fulmer is let go.
Do I think it was time for a change? Yes. But, you give TBC some respect.
The mood of the students ”rival[s] that of the 2005 victory over LSU?” What the hell? These are likely the girls that wear pink Tennessee shirts and nObama stickers to the games; the type of girl who doesn’t know the difference between a HB plunge into the two gap and a plunge into her two gap at the Pike house.
I can see it now, the same guy who rips a water bong and heads down to the Orange Nation seats to scream out things like “put in Jim Bob Cooter” and wave at the fucking jumbotron camera during a 4th and 1 play is now prancing around Circle Park in his skinny jeans and scarf slapping hands with his friend Niles.
The real Tennessee fans/students are ready to change, but in the bottom of their heart still realize Fulmer deserves the respect of a school that he graduated, played, and coached at. Walk over to Gibbs hall and find me some people pumped about the announcement. I hope Eric Berry comes across a desk in Humanities and tea bags the next person to cheer in a class at the announcement.
What has happened to the Tennessee students? Has the Hope Scholarship brought in that many smart kids that they can’t even sell 14,000 tickets to the BAMA game? The only thing I know to be true is that the University of Tennessee has some of the shittiest and most fickle student fans in the SEC.
Go take the ”OUTRAGEOUS” $90 you pay for season tickets and buy a box of Boca burgers and a carton of Parliaments and jump off the Henley Street bridge.

ROTFLMGDAO! I am a douche of epic proportions and even I think that is outrageous.
I don’t think anyone was suggesting disrespect for the Coach, including myself. Nor do I use student tickets (except on rare occasions, as my family has two levels of season tickets) and I certainly don’t eat Bocas!
But I must say, I enjoy making it into one of my favorite football blogs any way I can.
yeah I’m a student now, but I don’t have class on Mondays so I have no idea how true that guy’s post was…
that said, our students have been nothing short of pitiful this season and I completely agree with your post. there’s even part of me ashamed that I’ll get thrown into the same stereotype as some of these idiots who bitched about 90-freakin-dollars, cuz I’ve been following my beloved Vols for as long as I remember…
@2, the post is not directed at you. You are just the messenger.
95% of the campus should be wiped out. Go look at Penn State students of the 2000s. Some really bad teams. Sold out student sections 20k+. Loud and passionate.
It’s a sad day for Tennessee football. Anyone who celebrates is severely myopic. Don’t get me wrong, change might have been due. But it will be terribly hard to replace Fulmer. If you’re celebrating today, your memory must not go back beyond 2002.
2-Dammit, you made me lose my lunch with that vomitous shit.
Phil is a good man and an excellent coach. He just burned out after seventeen years and his interest dwindled to the point of being in a coma. Cut leaving did not help and with Florida and Alabama on the rise the Vols are not going to be able to compete for a while, so it’s a certainty that Fulmer is relieved.
You can’t live in the past. That’s what Bama fans are criticized for, and now you’re falling into the same category. When you have a team that has such a high level recruiting class, but you cannot win games, then that’s a coaching problem, and more importantly, that’s a head coaching problem. Yeah, he did a great job in ‘98, but this is 10 years later. He had to either adapt or leave, and he hasn’t adapted. Remember, the students are the reason there is a football team, not the other way around. It’s their right to be happy if the administration they finance has finally shown some gumption.
I quit being a UT fan after ‘98. I was there my entire life until Sanders took over the OC position. After that, it just wasn’t the same. Discipline flew out the window (oh, you broke a law, but it’s ok, we’ll still keep you on the team), which is one reason I have a lot of respect for Pearl. The QB choices this season were horrible, and that ended up costing not just the students and fans, but the team.
Just wanted to drop in and laugh at your pathetic program. Enjoy the continual slide to mediocrity. Currently a 2 game winning streak, and it doesn’t look like it will stop until at least 5 or 6 at minimum. Get used to being Bama’s bitch for the forseeable future.
Speaking of Henley Street…
What are the chances that Dunkin’ Donuts will be going out of business now that Phil will be leaving town?
Dude, Michigan forced Carr out. Championship winning coach. Wasn’t too long after that the “M Zone” one my favorite blogs went down the crapper. Please don’t follow suit. I AM A HUGE BAMA FAN!!!! Love LWS though. Keep it up now matter what. You guys and DeepSouth are all I’ve got left.
I didn’t have anything to do with these happenings. I’m ashamed of the way that the university handled things and the way that Arian Foster wouldn’t sit down and stop clapping when TBC entered the room.
eKnowing the LWS posse, as I do…and knowing that they are forever banished from volquest.com (gayest sports website name ever)…I was hoping to get their input on how (they think) this action may impact the way that our beloved Bruce Pearl views this administration. (Basketball haters are obviously excluded from this convo)
10-Phil’s addiction has nothing to do with it, you should be ashamed of yourself.
12,
Arian Foster was standing and clapping in support of Coach Fulmer, just like all of the other players in attendance. Why are you ashamed of that?
I have to be honest, whatever the poster’s story said was not true. The truth is that the campus is so disaffected that I saw NOBODY (PERIOD.) talking about football on Monday. I have classes all day, most of which are on The Hill – and I saw none of that. It COULD have happened if the student body were more concerned with what our team is doing. Please understand I’m not trying to shit on homeboy’s parade, and I certainly am not trying to save UT from shame, it’s just that this report is exaggerated to the point of being incredulous. This is clearly just an attempt to seem informed and thereby gain notoriety. Maybe this guys should work for the four letter network.
@13 – To hell with Phil…
I’m worried about the poor saps that work there that will surely be out of a job when the store shuts down…
Times are tough all around…
Hopefully, Obama will have a plan to help these people and the rest of the bakers and pastry makers througout Knoxville proper that will surely feel the pinch…
17-According to a news release today, the University Administration advises that Mark Mangino has been hired to replace Fulmer and Dunkin Donuts is elated to report that the store will not only remain open but additional personell willl be hired due to the increased work load. The release further states that Mangino will arrive from Kansas this Saturday by flatbed truck.
