Jai I keep hearing that Butch Davis is the favorite, and he sure didn’t shoot down the rumors earlier. Do you have info that it’s Leach instead, or is it a hunch?
I am much more afraid of Butch Davis. I also like how I suggested Mike Leach a year ago and was basically laughed off. Same old UT. Years behind everyone else.
Mike Leach will no more be the coach at Tennessee than Vince Lombardi. SEC defenses will bust his spread option nuts and he knows it, but Herb, the nutcase at Georgia and dopey Les will be delighted if he is the pick.
When God made Tebow, He made him for the spread option offense that is ran at UF. UF will not be able to run that offense without a Tebow-like QB and QBs like Tebow are once-in-a-generation. Football has been played a long, long time and Tebow very well may win 2 heisman trophies. You think Meyer will be able to produce another player like that? If so, you’re underestimating Tebow and degrading the heisman trophy.
I loathe UF, but Tebow, as big of a douche as I call him, is damn good and a great kid. Meyer and UF will never have anything close to him at any position for many, many years to come if ever.
Mike Leach’s offense is by-god awesome with the strike of lightining talent he has right now at QB, receiver, running back, and both O and D lines. If you’re able to land Leach, just know that for every +10 win season, you’ll have 1 6-win (or worse) season and 1 8-win season with an SEC schedule.
@10 Do not forget God made Alex Smith too and he was able to produce an undefeated season for Utah with Meyer. Florida may not have another Tebow but I am willing to bet that there is another QB that is out there to run Meyer’s offense. I am also willing to bet that said QB is willing to go to Florida. The system is there.
I have been forced to follow Texas college football programs since we moved to Houston, and I must say Leach is by far the most entertaining. He hasn’t had a lot of Parade All-Americans there, but he finds guys that fit his system. Lubbock TX is a cool little college town, but if he had the money and facilities that UT had, watch out.
Jon, the Haws are undefeated so far??? How long will that last, especially with Josh Smith on the shelf???
Us Gators know that Tebow is the perfect fit for Meyer’s system. We know that there will be change once he is gone. But Meyer changes the offense every year to fit the personnel.
The next in line – Brantley – is one helluva a passer. In today’s game, you need to have a high passer efficiency rating to succeed. The knock on Brantley was that he needed to improve his speed and running ability. In the few times he’s played this year, he’s shown that he’s not scared to run the ball and/or take a hit. Which is an encouraging sight to see. Along with that though, it will be interesting to see if Meyer resorts back to the 2-QB Offense with Brantley and Newton once Tebow is gone.
Also Jon, per your comments the other day, the Hawks are looking good so far this year.
13-Brantley can throw but is a little slow so he does not fit the spread mold. I wouldn’t worry to much though, since you have Tebow another year. By the time Brantley takes over Meyer will have brought in five or six guys who run a 4.2 plus a couple of gorillas like Julio Jones.
Is this a ‘heard it here at LWS first’ report?

Mike Leach..lol What a joke. Even Shula is 1-0 vs. Leach. Hilarious, just simply hilarious.
BDavis is NOT leaving his current post. Insiders say he’s already told the barn NO!
Leach, you may have a shot at if you throw enough $$$$.

“The Spread will never work in the SEC.”
– Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama fans after Urban Meyer was hired at UF
Leach would be an awesome hire for yous guys!
7-”The spread will never work in the SEC”, unless you have Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin and that lawyer ain’t coming to Rocky Top.

The Spread will be Dead in a few years…the new hybrid wishbone will take its place…..

13-Strike “gorillas”, add wide receivers.
