The start of the college season for Billy Gillispie’s second year in Lexington looked an awful lot like the first. Instead of Gardner-Webb, Kentucky fell victim to the Keydets of the Virginia Military Institute in embarrassing, weak-wristed fashion. As expected, the message boards dedicated to Kentucky basketball exploded in a mess of text arguing the merits of Tubby Smith’s replacement.

Vols: your team is very good, but the fact you post this here means you have no idea whats coming. Hell, with Patterson we could have won the SEC last season. It is coming, and while I know your team will be good too, you should go back through history and see the rise and fall of many teams. You are a coach and we are a program.

I do not believe for 1 second that VMI is more talented then us or that losing to the likes of VMI, Gardner-Webb, San Diego, etc.,. is worthwhile or noble in the long run. You should beat these teams AND improve. Beating these teams and developing are not mutually exclusive behaviors. Currently Billy G is pissing all over our status. Tubby started it and in his own way coach G is carrying on this miserable destruction of decades of hard work.”
