This topic piqued my interest in something. Here’s a little factoid for you guys.
Alabama has beaten UT back-to-back by 20 points. Last time UT did that? 40 years ago.
Phil Fulmer won this game by 20 precisely once. The same amount of times Dennis Franchione accomplished it. Took Frannie 2 years to make his impact. I think Phil had 16 tries.
If Alabama beats UT by 20 or more again this fall they will accomplish something the UT program has NEVER done – record 3 straight over-20 point wins in this series.
It’ll be nothing new for Alabama however. Some guy named Bryant beat Tennessee 3 straight by 20-or-over on 2 separate occasions in two different decades.
So what I am getting at is this: since Alabama has already apeared in top 5s picked by Mark Schlabach of ESPN and Tony Barnhart for 2009 and UT . . .hasn’t . . .the smart strategy for UT to avoid a moment in program ignominy is to get out of the game.
