And right before National Signing Day. Oh Lordy, it is way to early to think that some of those recruits won’t go to Knoxville for Tennessee Escalades either. The statements from the Blue-chippers are canned responses from the Bama Press. The shock has not worn off of the recruits.

It has to be assumed that Saban and the Red Elephants were at least able to match Tennessee’s offer. At that point for Thompson, it became who is a bigger asshole: Kiffin or Saban? Saban won.

I think this is a really good hire from UT and that is coming from a Bama guy. He’ll be a great recruiter for UT. No question. I have heard that as a position coach . . .he’s a great recruiter.
I would think that after the continuous denunciatrions of Alabama recruiting on this blog (and since Lance Thompson was lead recruiter, when the fingers were pointed you were pointing at HIM) that you Vols guys shouldn’t be so quick to holler “cheater.” I highly doubt Thompson will recruit any different at UT than he did at ‘Bama. And c’mon guys, you know none of these programs is that clean . . .
But that was, on the whole, a real good get for Kiffin.

Hey guys – look at this from today’s B’ham paper. Very interesting per this move:
“Oh, before that: You’ll read a small note today about how the wife of former Alabama outside linebackers coach Lance Thompson has filed for divorce, according to court documents. Stacy Lynn Thompson cited irreconcilable differences in the paperwork filed on Jan. 8 with Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court. Thompson, as you know, left UA for Tennessee on Jan. 15, saying his move was a mix of personal, family and business.”
That’s kind of an interesting factor in this move.
And Jai, per the closing rfemark about Alabama possibly matching the UT offer: according to the Press-Register, Thomson will double his salary at UT. I don’t know if Alabama made a counteroffer (and given the timeline I don’t know when they had a chance to), but given his marital situation he may not have wanted one.
Ute would think that Bammer would offer a counter offer, unless the Red Elephant Club has completely taken over ‘crootin at the Crapstone.
I don’t think Lance was interested in a counter offer, Dirt. I think that he wanted to get as far away from the soon-to-be former Mrs. Thompson as he could. That divorce filing tells the tale here. Note the date of the filing. Old Lance needed to get the hell out of Dodge.
