Herban Meyer: Spin it

lucky strike copy

Scroggins has got to be hyped.  Hyped over the  great success of  QBs coached by Herban Meyer in the NFL…Leak…Smith…. A sucker is born every minute

“I’m hyped on Florida for sure,” Scroggins told the Web site’s West Recruiting Blog. “They win national championships there and coach Meyer does a great job with the quarterback position. They said they’re changing the offense after (Tim) Tebow graduates to a more drop back style offense and they brought in Scott Loeffler to be the OC there and that’s the kind of offense he has always run so I know it will be a good fit for me.

Meyer to change the Gators offense to land Scroggins? Riiiiight.

  1. Jai,
Are you afraid for Kiffin at the SEC coaches’ conference? All those successful coaches-Meyer, Spurrier, Saban mad at the boy. Lane might be eating his breakfast in the bathroom in order to avoid getting a wedgie.

  2. Kiffin is great. what you are seeing Jim, is fear from your coach.

  3. LOL….the Ole Ball Coach sure showed Kiffin who is boss. Kiffin is a joke. All yap and nothing else. Three years from now UcheaT will be looking for another coach. Couldn’t happen to a sorrier bunch…LOL

  4. I don’t believe Meyer will change his offense maybe tweek it a little but not a total change he tried to feed Trent Richardson the same line . This year has show that the N.F.L. does not like Flordias’ skilled players, thats just the facts great in college but they are never taught any type of N.F.L. schemes just the spread doesn’t translate.

  5. Meyer has stated repeatedly that he fits his offense around the athletes, not the other way around. The reason that we have a running-qb style offense now is because we have Tebow.

Next year, after Tebow leaves, we’re going to fit our offense around Johnny Brantley & crew. I see him being more of an I-Formation drop back and pass style QB. He has a prettier throw than Tebow does, but can still run (similar to Alex Smith)… although, he definitely doesn’t have the power to take out linebackers, etc like Tebow does.

Furthermore, the new QB coach (Loeffler) is already making changes to the QB system, including to Tebow. During Spring practice, Tebow took a number of snaps from under center, which is something that he rarely did in the past.

We’ll see if Tebow under center happens during actual games, but my guess is that it will (at least during easy patsy games like Tennessee!). It really depends on if Tebow feels comfortable – because, like I said earlier, Meyer fits the offense around the players, not the other way around.

  6. Mike, dear mike.

Herban is almost as bad as bammeroids about telling the truth….maybe we could call it the luck of the “IRISH”?

  7. I’ve heard that argument about 1000 times from mostly Tennessee fans. It makes sense because that’s the only argument that you have, and can hope for in your wildest wet dreams!

To tell you the truth, if I were in your position with the laughing stock of the SEC as my HC, and my arch-rival was about to win it’s 3rd MCS in 4 years, I’d probably be shooting in the dark too :)

  8. bamajam37:

We sent 4 players to the combine – 3 of them WRs – and all 3 of them were drafted in the first 5 rounds. Including 1 player (Ingram) who didn’t even play a down last year. Am I missing something? I know Florida WRs from the Spurrier and Zook days haven’t done well in the NFL, but it’s unfair to judge this crop just yet.

As Mike said, Urban fits his offense around his athletes. He tweaks it every year.

  9. What i’m saying is in the last three years the Gators have had in 2009 a W.R. in the first round , one in the fourth , a T.E. in the fifth ,2008 one W.R. in the third , 2007 a W.R. in the seventh , a R.B. in the seventh, and a C.B. in the sixth thats all im saying ,gators are great for college just struggle in the N.F.L. they haft to put in so much more work to catch up to the kids that have played a pro-style offense forthree or four years in college .

  10. If Herban said it then it must be true.

He has to change it because he doesn’t have a read option quarterback after Tebow leaves and Newton went into the computer business. The OC Mullen leaving for Miss State did not help either.

This is Trickett’s third year with the offensive line. FSU will unleash a running game in Gainesville this fall the gators will never forget. It will be similar to Trickett lines at WVU. College football watches and waits.
