Kiffin and Tennessee History

Phil at Bama

On the cutting edge of one of the most important games of the college football, Lane Kiffin reached out to the cheaters to wear Orange Jerseys, only to be given the Bama one finger salute.  Maybe the old boy is getting it……Alabama players look like the biggest douchebags in the world in their photos.

Many of us are concerned that the history, traditions, and stability are jeopardized with this hire. Over the years, UT has always prided itself on having quality coaches that actually gave a damn about Tennessee, genuine love for the state and the university. I’m not thrilled with Kiffin’s latest comments on history and that we are changing and becoming more like the other schools.

“I told the guys last night,’’ Kiffin said, “I don’t know all the Tennessee history and tradition, nor do I intend to. I know there are a lot of great teams in this conference.”

I was taken aback by this quote. Not the right thing to say. This will piss off a lot of the old guard. He t’aint perfect, and he’s very young and still learning. He’s shown that sometimes he talks before he thinks. He’ll figure it out. Ahhhh fuck it: He is natural winner!!!!

All kidding aside, Lane learn as much about Tennessee history as you can. It can be very valuable in your current job. The Old Bubba’s carry the checkbooks.

UT was different. UT was a family, built on stability and love. Now we are just like every other school. We have lost our way somewhat. I’m not saying Kiffin wont be successful. If the man can coach, he can coach. But will you still feel great about this hire if he has a good year or two and leaves us to head back to the NFL for a better job and we are left searching for another coach in two years?

  1. All joking aside dudes that “nor do I intend to” is a pretty strange remark from a coach at a traditional program.

  2. Chillax my Volunteer friends. Would you rather have a lying POS like Meyer or Saban? Kiffin is being honest in saying he is not from Tennessee and has not lived with the rivalries and therefore cannot possibly learn the emotions that we carry with us everyday.

However, I do think, one day, he will fuck Urban in the ass.

  3. Coach Kiffin invited me to practice on Wednesday so that I could lecture the pups on the hatred between the Good Guys and The Cheaters. You know boys, I beat those motherfuckers both my Junior and Senior years.

  4. I believe you have misunderstood what CLK was saying. He said “pretend” not “intend”. It has been confirmed from several beat reporters around TN that he infact said “pretend”. With that cleared up, CLK is not as bad as you are mistakingly making him out to be. Go VOLS. Buck Fama!

  5. @Casual Male XL:

Meyer is a “lying POS” but Kiffin isn’t a liar? Really? lol.

  6. One of the traditions at UT: Under Johnny M, we got so uptight that the teams could not possibly beat the Turd, even when the Vol teams were superior.

I am glad CLK does not know, nor intent (pretend) to know about that, and I hope he does not have to learn that bad habit.

CPF did pretty well, until he figured that 8 was enough.

Some traditions are just not good.

  7. Vols4life is right. He said “pretend.” You better check the tape and amend your post or else LWS’s credibility is going in the dumper and that right quick.

  8. If there was ever a question whether Tennessee had truly made a bad mistake with this coaching hire, I think you have your answer. Even if he did say pretend, listening to this halfwit babble away reminds of a Ron Zook presser.

You guys better hope Monte stays healthy, ’cause I don’t think he passed any “defensive genius” genes on to his boy . . . .

Please provide a situation and link where Kiffin has lied. While you search, I will look for a bank that will cash this 3rd party check from South Yemen.

  10. If he said “pretend” it makes sense, so that is probably what he actually said.

  11. Scorched Colon:
Have you been living under a rock? Must we revisit the fact that he stood up at a post-recruiting breakfast in front of 1,000 people and lied about Meyer’s recruiting tactics?

  12. being young and dumb is different than lying.

  13. Personally,I think it is great. Kiffin looks at every opponent the same way. They are our adversary and they must be destroyed. Leave the emotion to the fans.

  14. @ Jai

“Being young and dumb is different than lying”

Not much of a choice there, is it buddy?

  15. I agree with Jai about the “lying” thing. I think he just made a mistake. A dumb, flagrant one, but not a deliberate lie. And I think that after a fumbling idiotic start he’s done a sneaky good job of improving his football team (just look at the offensive improvement over last year).

If he could keep his mouth shut he might be looking like the coach of the year.
