While we await Draconian-esque Mike Slive’s historical ruling and subsequent suspension of Herban Meyer for critical comments of SEC officiating (Slive said to knock that shit off), lets look at the facts that must be wearing on the Mike:
When the reward is $34 million to the conference the conspiracy to make sure two teams are in the BCS is very plausible, I’m saying they planned on these two teams and they considered LSU as well but to a lesser extent.
Yeah, there’s an unavoidable conflict of interest with the refs being hired by the conferences. They might not have been told “Fix this game for Bama” or “turn a blind eye to Florida (get it??), but these refs know in the back of their minds that a call against Florida or Alabama it could come back to bite them in the ass if it keeps Florida or Bama out of the BCS Championship Game.
So this might be the conversation between Florida AD and SEC “Commissioner” Mike Slive:

Gators use words like 1% of 1%, class, denial…we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use ‘em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very tradition I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I’d rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a helmet, fill the 2 gap and pancake a tailback. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you’re entitled to!

Can you Tennessee fans possibly whine anymore about Slive/Bama/UF? I understand that you’d rather UF or Bama get on probation instead of UT having to beat them on the field (UT was crowned SEC Champs in ‘85 & ‘90 due to UF being on probation), but seriously. If Kiffin wasn’t spouting off at the mouth about things he knows nothing about and if UT was actual winning some games against UF or Bama, Slive would be a non-issue.
LL, I am proud of your unwavering support of Urban Meyer and your Gators. But dude, you need to get off the local papers. These guys , LWS, are but a tip of the iceberg.
I think you will see the “tide” reversed in the coming years. Winning against UF and SPUAT is but a foregone conclusion
It is mildly disturbing that almost all the close calls and some that looked to be clear-cut( Ex. Petersens int today vrs Bama – that will hard to explain) have all been to the benefit of Bama or UF this year. There is a lot of money at stake and if , for example The Hogs had upset UF and the Vols Bama, then maybe even the winner of the SEC champion Game might not make it to the final game of the year. It could have been say Texas vrs USC or Ohio State . No real fan of the SEC wants to see a wuss team like Texas win the NC , when the horns couldnt win either the east or the west in the SEC. That said , it doesnt do the league any good to have the perception widely held that SEC refs , whether actively or passively cheat to keep the big dogs record clean . It looks pretty damn bad to see all the articles on ESPN , SI, etc regarding how biased SEC officiating is and has been this year. I dont know if it is unconscious or a tacit understanding between the SEC & refs or just our collective imaginations , but it looks anything but kosher. As to you Bama & Gators Fans- UT will kick both your azzes beginning next year and for many years after that. You knowit, Iknow it and the American People know it. Enjoy winning while you can- there is a new sheriff in town , fellow named Kiffin.

I’m not unwavering in my support. I agree that Meyer should have been fined for his criticism of the officials and that Spikes should have been suspended an entire game, not just a half.
For your sake, I hope that UT wins one of these games against UF in the coming years. Then, maybe it will start to become the “rivalry” that you all crave, when you’re at best UF’s 3rd rival.
