Every school has hostesses and I am sure that every school has contact between some athletes and the hostesses after the fact.
Hostesses going to a game cannot be that unusual and certainly is far from a major violation.
Kiffin having 6 secondary violations surely results in a rate far lower than most of the top 25 teams, so that is hardly justification for a school that is “Out of control”.

The only way to make it an issue is to get a National media outlet to run with it. None of these things would ever make the NCAA bat an eye. Without media attention, this would have quickly gone away.
The Times likely picked up the story because they implicitly suggest a sexual relationship between recruits and athletes. That will get readers attention.
Their justification for this is subtle and they have no facts to support their case. Their lead interview is a guy that is going to go a school that hates us because Kiffin allegedly told their recruits they would be pumping Gas. Not exactly the most unbiased source.
This happens right before these guys are going to enroll, so the NCAA is going to have to act quickly (and likely before all facts are in).
Throw on top of it, that it happens right before the dead period, so the recruits are going to have to wait in limbo during this period without contact with the coaching staff.
If someone wanted to torch our recruiting, they did a great job and the NY Times was more than happy to help.
This happens all the time in politics. This actually isn’t even unprecedented in recruiting. Check out the hatchet job this guy did on Texas last year with a recruit that went to OU.
This thing still should amount to nothing, but valuable time and effort that could have been utilized for recruiting / hiring coaches / anything else is now going to have to be utilized for spin.

Uhhh Ya Momma, not many Vols are happy with 7-5, BUT considering the mess Fulmer left it isn’t terrible. Remember, Tennessee is one of the all-time top programs in the country. NO ONE is happy on Rocky Top with 7-5. We are happy with Kiffin, though, because his area of the expertise, the offense, improved significantly over the course of the season and especially vs. last year. You may be a rival fan who doesn’t like UT, but you surely can’t dispute that. The proof was on the field and in the numbers. His other area of expertise, recruiting, is of course doing gangbusters as usual.

That’s why there are rumors that other coaches are eager to rat out Kiffin’s program. That’s why some coaches got the word to Ray Melick of The Birmingham News that Kiffin’s appearance on ESPN’s “College GameDay” might have been a breach of etiquette.
Kiffin is a wanted man. He made himself a wanted man with his statements and actions.
Add to that the departure of two assistant coaches in lateral moves after only one year on the job and you have to wonder if there aren’t some cracks starting to show in the structural framework of the UT program
