*Lane Kiffin. Just 35 years old, Lane Kiffin has already held more high-profile coaching jobs in football than most successful coaches do in a lifetime. Since 2005, he has worked as USC Trojans offensive coordinator under Pete Carroll, head coach of the Oakland Raiders, head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers and, as of January 2010, head coach of the USC Trojans. Though renowned for his uncanny ability to recruit talent and invigorate a football program, Kiffin has yet to deliver on expectations, however. After controversial tenures and messy divorces in Oakland and Knoxville, Kiffin discusses his roller-coaster ride through coaching, including the reaction of Tennessee players and fans to his stunning departure, with correspondent Andrea Kremer in this REAL SPORTS/Sports Illustrated profile. Interviews include Lane Kiffin, his wife Layla and his father and defensive coordinator Monte.)

Mean Girls Rules the world and Lane Kiffin is kicking ass. We’re going to go out on a limb and guess that the fan-bases were evenly divided: half Southern Cal teeny-boppers out at the mall for a little girl time, and half middle-aged Jock-Sniffing Tennessee men that would be occupying the Pee Wee Herman Commemorative Cell if the ushers had a better flashlight budget.

The real story in all of this is Lane Kiffin. He’s really taking the sexy-librarian-in-horn-rimmed-glasses thing to a delicious extreme. We hear that he wasn’t quite ready to light the sex-bomb fuse back in his days at L.A, but now that he’s on-camera sideline talent and the hottest recruiter of the moment, he’s definitely ready to sweep the books off of the reference desk and show us the Dewey decimal codes for unbridled passion. Not that a football coach would ever want to indulge in something like that. We sat down with this emerging facet of Kiffin’s personality and had a chat with “Lane Kiffin’s Estrogen Fired Nutsack” (LKEFN):

LWS: Everyone knows Kiffin was a 30-something NFL coach who was inexplicably fired; a former Tennessee Coach that put the oral in moral wins; and ultimately was the 19th coach NOT to pass on the Southern Cal coaching gig.

LKEFN: He’s just one of the guys at USC, really. As likely to burp, fart, or very innocently twist a lock of his golden coif while looking up from under his visor, enjoying the taste of a pencil eraser against the tip of his tongue as anyone else.

LWS: It seems you’ve really taken to being on camera. It’s really bringing your aspect of the personality to the forefront.

LKEFN: I’m still very, very shy when there’s a camera around. I do it because I love it. It’s all about the work, not the attention. Coaching, preening and recruiting will always be my first loves.

[he reaches into his purse and produces a banana.]

LWS: Why are you licking that banana?

LKEFN: This thing? What? I’m peeling it. I’m going to have a snack. You lick it and it’s easier to peel.

LWS: You’re running your tongue up and down it and winking at me.

LKEFN: Something got in my eye. Why are you watching me? It’s really making me self-conscious.

[he unbuttons two buttons on his Bike Coaching Shorts.]

LKEFN: Sorry, I get hot when I’m self-conscious because someone’s potentially objectifying me.

LWS: Any offers from Playboy yet?

LKEFN: Playboy? Why? There’s not enough ink in their airbrushes to turn us into one of those fake-bazoomed blondes. Look here. [he unbuttons another button, then presses his fingers to his sack and makes his cameltoe pronounced.] See? These are not nearly big enough for Playboy.

LWS: Now that you’re tracing the edge of the cleavage with the banana, I see what you mean.

LKEFN: Thank you. Jesus, me in Playboy. I have half a mind to put on some panties underneath these Bike coaching shorts and storm out of here.
