With the Oregon Ducks coming to town I was just thinking of how lucky we are to bleed Orange. Would I like to have a roster of all Tennessee kids. Yep. Is it going to happen? Nope. For every Tennessee kid we lose I submit we pick up a kid from another state that good old state U wanted. No kid is going to be to resist the pull of Dooley. From the punter in Maine or the linebacker from Guam, they will be Vols if Dooley wants them.
The most fertile recruiting ground in Tennessee is closer to six other SEC schools than it home state U. Dooley was put in the absolute worst situation one could imagine and managed to save most of a class and add some depth to it. Not to bad in my opinion. He saved the Number one state recruit and added the number two recruit which was not going to happen under the previous staff. Now unlike you and all the Tennessee first and always crowd, I have no clue what the outcome of this next class will be. I think we will all know better after Saturday. I would gladly trade the number one athlete in the state this year for 3-4 solid OL kids from wherever. Sometimes the best in the state does not match what your specific needs are. Sometimes the kids just do not want to be part of your program. Do you think Spurrier or Herban would have taken Tyler Wolf? Nope, not sexy enough
I hope wherever the kids go they all becomes all-american but for the purposes of the 2011
class we need OL/DL/QB/LB.Its in my opinion really early to stamp coach Dooley and staff a bust. Lets all wait and see where we are on September 9, after we paint Oregon’s backporch red.
