LWS at the BCS Championship Game

Some thoughts and random first-hand observations from the BCS Championship Game:

In the Nike vs. Under Armour war, Click Clack came out on top.  Yes, Nike paid for a laser to blast Oregon shit onto Camelback Mtn., but Under Armour went All In for Auburn.  In addition to these planes circling over the stadium area for about the 5 hrs prior to kick off, there were several Under Armour-backed Auburn  billboards on the Loop 101 and I-10.  I didn’t see shit on I-17 but I doubt many fans from either team were taking I-17.

When the UoP Stadium PA announcer broadcasted the new stadium record of 78,603, Oregon fans were impressed.  Auburn fans were disappointed. By SEC standards, Arkansas’ stadium in Fayettenam holds about that much (but is expandable to 80K).

Chip Kelly is like that asshole friend you play on PS3 or XBox that doesn’t believe in field goals or punts.  If anyone can explain the logic behind going for two on Oregon’s first TD, please do so.  And speaking off assholes and Oregon, many of their younger fans are douche-canoes.  Their older fans were cool (you know, ones that actually went to school there, just not the 22 year old tool bags from Casa Grande, AZ that bought an Dennis Dixon jersey 3 years ago to go with his green and yellow air force ones.  I went from having no feelings towards them to not liking their fanbase.  I have always been partial to Oregon St. for some reason, now it is justified.  All that X-Box shit and douchebagness still resulted in the same thing that the Barn did to 6 other ranked teams this year, a fucking win.

I saw two Bear-fearin’ fans at the game wearing Bammah gear.  Not outside the stadium, but actually in the stadium.  So if they paid the $350 per ticket (face value) back when they went on sale, those motherfuckers still refused to sell their tickets just to root against Auburn.  Tickets 2 rows ahead of me were going for $4500 each the Saturday before the game.  $9K-$700 = $8300.  That’s more than enough for a slightly used trailer home in Guin, or maybe even Gu-Win.  I guess the Bammers will always be obsessed with the cow college down the road.

It was good so many Bammers were pulling for Oregon (Roll Ducks Roll). I knew Auburn fans (not the majority) that were pulling for Texas last year but I didn’t see any War Damn Horns shirts being printed up. With so many Bammers pulling for Oregon it was like beating them twice in one year.

After watching the replay, Auburn didn’t play a good game.  Oregon played as good as Oregon had played all year (and I watched Stanford, Cal, Az St, UA and USC games).  Newton’s performance was similar the one he had vs. Mississippi St., and Auburn still covered.    Bottom line is that the National Title was won by the Barn.  And I know there’s a lot (but not all) of rival fans that hate it, regardless of conference affiliation.

The field conditions didn’t help either team, several times players on both teams slipped making cuts, or even when they were in motion because of the turf quality.  I’m not sure if this is because it was the 2nd bowl game played in that stadium or If it is because Arizona and grass really don’t have a fond relationship.  Seriously, has anyone ever seen your average Phx front “yard”? You don’t have to water rocks.

Finally, the Family travels.  I had 12 people meeting me in AZ and only 5 out of the 12 of us had tickets.  Inside the stadium, it was about 60%-65% Auburn fans.  Outside the stadium the ratio was closer to 3:1.  I have been to Cardinals games there, but those had nothing on this game.
