Fired? Chuck Smith? I believe in one of CDD’s press conferences he mentioned fertile recruiting territory withing a “6 hour radius”, as well as Memphis. The original post was to detail in which Chuck Smith / Trooper Taylor situations possibly parallel each other. I’m of the opinion that in order to recruit Memphis and Atlanta that you need to have a strong African American on staff. Am I right? I don’t know. But I do believe there is something to having an African American on staff that is a major recruiter….Otherwise, guys like Trooper Taylor, Luper, Frank Wilson, Rodney Garner would not be coveted by various universities. Now, I’m not saying they are “ethical” by any means, however I do think they can possibly land a certain player because of their relationship amongst high profile recruits.
However, I’m of the opinion that having a Trooper Taylor, Rodney Garner, Chuck Smith, (insert your favorite hired AA gun here) – is a plus and gives you an edge.
Now….can Lance Thompson do the job? He was a national recruiter of the year (for Saban)…I think so. But if he has Smith as the DL coach, I think the chances are better. This is my opinion.
To put numbers to the argument, here is a quick search; it is not exhaustive, and is a sample only of the more recognizable SEC programs.
LSU= 3 AA’s
AU= 4 AA’s
SC= 2 AA’s
UGA= 2 AA’s (staff is currently incomplete)
UF= (unable to verify at present)
Vandy= ZERO

No blacks (african americans as you say) on Vandy’s staff? Really? This site just lost what itty bitty bit of credibility it had. Laughable.
