What do you expect when you watch Tennessee?

Time to end it all?

My approach changed to how I watch games and my expectations for games On October 21, 1990. After sitting depressed for an hour after that game and watching Alabama fans celebrate a victory they had counted as a loss coming into the game, I knew I could no longer go into games with the feeling of domination. That Tennessee team was so much better than that Alabama team,  the game should not have been close at all let alone a loss.

I don’t let me emotions getting too high or too low anymore. There are games (Buffalo, Montana and MTSU for instance) that I go to with a high comfort level we are going to win. Its not a cocky comfort level, just a feeling we will win. But like UAB almost did last year a loss to any of those would not shock me. Those things happen. I go to certain games thinking we are likely to lose those games. I go hoping we can find a way to win (Bama, LSU, Florida this year are examples) but realize it is not likely.

One thing I do not do any longer is get depressed or upset over losses. I can’t remember the last time I was mad or upset over a loss since that October day in 1990. I was disappointed in 2001 when Georgia came back to pull that game out but it was no where close to how I felt in 1990 versus Bama.  Last year’s LSU game probably hurt me more (emotionally) than any game since 1990. I saw that as a huge lift for Dooley and staff that could have lifted the program.
